Prologue:
Lightning flashed.
Thunder exploded in the distance.
A tall figure stood in front of the large bay window of the study with a crystal wine glass in hand. His golden amber eyes watched as the rain fell. He lifted the glass to his lips slowly and took a sip.
Around four hours ago, he received a call from his father's lawyers requesting an emergency meeting. He had figured that something had happened in the business that required his immediate attention. But when he arrived, there was a stack of papers sitting on the desk before him. At first glance they meant nothing but upon closer inspection... one particular sentence stuck out the most.
The last will and testament of Inumaru Taishou.
And the rest was all a distant memory in his mind as he took another sip of wine. His father had died of old age two days before hand in Tokyo. Inumaru had left half of the Taishou Hotels and resorts business to himself while the other half went to his half-brother. But what he, the eldest son of the Inu no Taishou, and heir to the Western Lands, was after was what his father left behind in Tokyo.
His father owned three swords. The Tensaiga, Tetsusaiga, and Sounga. Tensaiga was given to the eldest, Tetsusaiga to the youngest and Sounga was hidden. But Sesshoumaru had reason to believe that his father left the Sounga in Tokyo with his mistress. Sesshoumaru was told that his father had been staying at an inn for the past year and a half. And that his father was close with the owner of said inn.
A ding from the laptop on his desk brought him out of his thoughts. He sat down in his chair, moved the mouse around, and waited for the screen to fade in. When the screen showed up he clicked on the e-mail he received from his 'source' and waited for the information to show up. The first thing to pop up was a picture of a young woman with long jet black hair and ice blue eyes.
She looked to be in her mid-twenties. He scrolled down the page to her information.
"Higurashi Kagome, born in Tokyo on May 9, 1982 to Kane and Izumi Higurashi, two living relatives, one adopted son, current location: Tokyo." Sesshoumaru set the wine glass down and took out a piece of paper, and pen and wrote down the address of the Higurashi Inn.
A soft knock on the door caught his attention. He turned to see the large oak door open and a head of black hair poke in. "Sesshoumaru-sama?" A little girl's voice spoke out.
"Enter Rin." He said. Rin stepped in and closed the door before padding over to his desk and looking at him with hope filled eyes. His hard golden gaze softened and he nodded. Rin smiled toothily and jumped up into his lap. She settled down and stared at his computer. She reached over and moved the page up and paused at the picture.
"Who's the pretty lady?" Rin asked.
"A friend of my chichi-ue." He replied. He ran a clawed hand through Rin's long hair and set his chin on his left hand as he leaned back in his chair for Rin to play on the somputer.
"Are you going to meet her? Rin wants to come to papa!" Rin said as she clapped her hands together softly and looked back at him over her shoulder.
"I might."
"Awww! But Rin really wants to meet the pretty lady! What's her name!" Rin asked.
"Sound it out." He knew that she couldn't read as well as he could, her being a child at the age of six.
"K-Ka...Kagame?" Rin asked as she looked back at her papa.
"Kagome." He corrected.
"Kagome..." Rin tested the word on her lips. "Papa's gonna visit her right?" Rin asked again.
"Hai Rin."
"That means Rin's goin' too!" Rin went to jump off his lap and run to pack her things but his arms around her stopped her action. "Why can't Rin go with papa?" Rin asked with tears welled in her eyes.
"We will pack tomorrow. Rest now Rin." He patted her lightly on the head and listened to her breathing as it slowed down.
"N'kay papa..." She trailed off.
Sesshoumaru sat there staring out the window as he held his adopted daughter in his lap. The rain fell lightly outside and lightning flashed far off in the distance. The thunder was a dull roll in the background. He ran a hand through Rin's hair again and smiled when she shifted and snuggled into him.
'Tomorrow.' He thought. 'Tomorrow I meet my chichi-ue's mistress and collect what rightfully belongs to me.'
