Plagiarism, what to do? 15 Years, 5 Months ago

Hi!
Ok, I have a problem and I don't know what to do.
Today I receive this PM on fanfiction.net, where I post my stories too.
Name: darke wulf
Profile: www.fanfiction.net/u/61703/
--------------------
Subject: Plagiarism
You might have already been told of this, but someone has stolen your story
"In the elevator" pretty much word for word, except the moved it into the
Naruto world.
The story is called "Elevator Interview", the author Silver vanilla. It's
been changed to an Itachi/Naruto pairing.
I was rather shocked but I just went to take a look and effectively, the first chapter of my story "in the elevator" is there, almost word to word exept that it isn't with sess&kag !!!!!!
What should I do? Should I contact the """""author""""" and ask her to remove MY story or should I directly contact the responsables of the website? I'm afraid that if I contact this 'silver vanilla', I won't be able to stay polite.Gah! It took me months to be able to complete this story and that %$£*Zq@$£**! of a girl just took it and used it as her own work!
Can someone help me?
Sweetest Angel

I would go directly to fanfiction.net and tell the author.
Sorry to hear this happened, Angel.

Get ahold of the website and post them what you know. They will remove it for you and most likely ban the author
Unfortunately, I've been through this more times than i care to count so i can tell you the best way to go about it is post the link and make sure you point out where the similarities (or what is word for word) your stuff is and prove to them it is yours. Include the day you uploaded it and they day they did. Give them every bit of information you have.
This is a plague of the internet and the more we jump on these lil idjusts the better

you should definitely take some kind of action...
(that doesn't involve running to a corner and sit it out)

do some magic vodo on him/her and make him/her take off "your" story!

its because they love you dani!
I'm not making light of the situation! in fact Monti and r0o just started a fic about this situation, I'm very sorry that someone less creative loves your work enough to steal it. - r0o

FF.net has a form which you can use to report plagiarism. I would file a complaint as soon as possible and follow what Danyealle said about all the stuff you should include. They should take it down and ban the author of the stolen work.
I think it's horrible that this has happened to you, but I'm so very glad that a sharp-eyed reader caught it and alerted you to it. Unfortunately, that's the only method we have of policing something like that... people who see the similarities and report them.
I'll cross my fingers that your situation is resolved soon... I LOVE your story and I'm so very sorry that someone was low, mean, and stupid enough to try to steal it!

thank you so much everyone for your words of support and advice. I just sent a message to ff.net like danyealle said to. Now I will wait.
Must I go regularly to see if they had done something or will they tell me when My story will disappear from Her profile?
Yeah r0o, when I first read the message of "darke wulf" (who I will never thank enough to have warn me!) I just thought "it's a joke!" and I immediatly thought of your story! lol
I love it by the way and I can't wait to see what kagome will do to her plagiarist!
I think that it won't be too difficult for them to believe me since she just post the first chapter two days ago when mine had been posted two YEARS ago and I finished the story last year!
And I concur with what r0o said about you Danyealle! you write so well that they want to be you and stole your stories! that's why I can't believe someone stole mine! LOL
Oh and finally I didn't send a message to 'silver vanilla'. I'm dieing to do it but I'm still too angry and hurt, I would probably just insult her right now! >_<'

Sending a message to them does no good. They wont answer usually cause they know they've been caught. Or they will deny it or, as one did with me, accuse you of stealing THEIR work. Just let the site admins do their work though it will take time.
Despite what some think, this is not flattery and doesn't feel that way. It's insulting to have someone take credit for something you worked so hard on and spent so much time and energy with and poured a lot into. It's hurtful and, as I've put it before, it's like intellectual rape, the ultimate violation of what you've done. I don't know why people do it nor, really, do I care. It's wrong, pure and simple. Nor is their any justification for it.
I will get off my soap box now and go back to what iw as doing

I think I understand better now what you felt, Danyealle.
Before, when I hear about plagiarism, it made me angry and I was thinking that this people were just stupid and just wanted to feel important.
But now, I might have sound calm but I'm really not. I would have never thought it hurt so much. It's not just the fact that she stole the story, it's worst because in two days she had more than 30 reviews. So that's mean more than 30 persons had congrats her for what I had so many difficulties to write, the language being only one. It feels like a double slap on my face! First the theft and then that.
I couldn't stop myself from going to read the reviews, which I know was stupid. When they were saying how much they love her story and couldn't wait to see what she will write next for the following chapter, I was at nothing to just snap and tell them clearly that if they liked it so much and were so much in a hurry to read what would happen next then they just have to go to the original story and they would be satisfied! I know it's wrong to be angry because of that. It's not their fault and they doesn't know that it is plagiarism.
It had just made me even more hurt by the situation.

Honestly, I would do exactly that. Aside from reporting her to the site admins... call her out on it publicly... let all the people that are watching her know that she stole your story... if she has more than one story posted, then the likelihood that the rest of them are stolen as well in very likely...

Well, I shimmied over the the Pit Of Voles, it looks like the story was taken down. I did a search for story name (no match) and checked the autoress's stories (in case she just changed the name), again no match. I believe you have victory, my dear!

When I went to check the story I didn't find anything so I'm sure that the person has taken it down.

Unless I got the wrong person....
Anyway, I love how nice people are being with each other here (for the most part). Haha, anyway, I don't think that thread belongs here but maybe I'm just being stupid. I think it should go in Off Topic
Good luck and I hope it doesn't happen to you (or anyone else) again.

I know this is off-topic, but I can't resist telling you AGAIN, how much I enjoy and admire "In the Elevator". This is an awesome story, and if someone is going to steal a story, I can see why they chose yours. It rocks!

Yeah... it's not much of a game, but it could be one. I'll have to think about it.

yeah, I went on her profile and the story isn't there anymore. That's cool!
I don't know if it's ff.net or the author herself when she had realized that she had been discovered but I'm just glad that the story had been put down so quickly.

You're extremely in the right state of mind to be terribly upset. Many times I have come across some of the best authors on fanfiction sites being copied without their knowledge.
Of all the advice I have come across, contacting the site admins are your best solutions. Notify them of your story, the identical differences, and if Dokuga will offer help, have these site admins also corroborate your evidence. The posting dates should also show the false author's true nature. You posted your story earlier than this thieving wretched person who has taken the illegal liberty of stealing that which did not belong to them.
Ooosa. Let me calm down before I blow a gasket. Hopefully, you have already come to a solution worthy of your approval and have had this problem sufficiently taken care of prior to this review.
