The Swan Miko by Hurricane

Prologue

Once upon a time, in a land of youkai and mikos, there was a great king. The king, Suo, and his wife, Queen Maya, had always wanted a child. For years they tried and never once would Maya be impregnated.

But, on the 18th year of their marriage, Maya gave birth to a little girl. The king took her out to the Northern balconies and held her up for all the world to see.

Below the royals, the people chanted the name of the heiress to the throne. They rejoiced in the birth. The chanting grew louder as the baby glowed blue. The name they chanted was:

"Kagome."

Sadly, 2 years after the birth, King Suo Higurashi was attacked by a youkai. He was poisoned and died the next day. But before he could die, he called to his daughter.

"Father," the little girl whispered. "Father, don't leave. I need you."

"Be brave, my little dear heart. I will never leave you. If you ever need me, just look at the stars. I'll give you star dust to wish on."

"Remember you in the stardust?"

"Hai."

"Yes. But if you ever need me, look at the moon. I'll send a beam to your star."

"Remember in the stardust."

"Remember in the moonbeams."

Soon after, the great king died. Kagome stayed with him until the burial, which was to be held at night. There was a statue of an arch-angel looking down onto his grave.

As they lowered him to the ground, a single sparkling sprinkle of dust landed on his coffin.
