Umi – "Sea" pronounced "Ooh me".
~~~~*~~~~
She stood on the balcony, overlooking the castle's lands. Her lands as well, according to her mate. Far as the eye could see there were green forests and the twinkle of blue lakes, rivers, and streams. A lone wolf howl echoed in the distance as quiet loomed over the ancient, magnificent estate. That solitary and upsetting howl, like a member of the pack who was separated from the others, it seeped into her heart and a tear rolled down her cheek.
Why? How? How could her family do this to her? Give her to the devil. This...monster...
He was no better than the demons that defile the young priestesses they catch on their way to pay homage to the gods.
He was the wolf; she was the prey.
Her family said that no matter what happens they would never let anyone get her or take her away. She would be safe in their home, their castle by the sea.
Some safety that was!
He came one day, after summer, when the leaves were turning golden and drifting into the wind. His form was that of a giant white dog, hair like spun moon beams and star light. He was beauty, he was also deadly. He was Lord.
Her mother wept when he spoke of his choice. It was known throughout the land that he was to take a mate soon, according to the last will and testament of his late father, the Great Dog General.
'A human wife,' the Great Dog General's Will and Testament said. 'If you desire power, learn about this woman you shall chose, learn to care for her. It won't be hard to do so, my son. Learn and benefit from this. From this, you will gain great power; not from my swords only.
She will be of the greatest beauty amongst her kind. With silken raven-wing hair and eyes as blue as the deepest part of the sea, this woman will help you become even more powerful than me.'
So, the Great Dog General's son set out. He searched for many years for this young female with the eyes of the sea. It took several years but he accomplished it.
She was too young then, only 14 and her body was not mature enough for his tastes. So he waited, stalked, and frightened off any would-be suitors.
By the time she reached 17 it was much harder to keep the suitors at bay, even with his power over the West. She had attracted the attention of men even from across the Great Sea, from China and the Philippines. But even those who may have caught her attention, or her parents' attention, soon departed without notice.
The Dog General's son's eyes glittered as he watched her, dressed haphazardly in her priestess clothes. Her hair fell against her shoulders, not tied as most ladies chose to do theirs.
She was a child of the earth, not bound by laws of the common men it seemed. If she chose to do something, her mind was set and no other could tell her otherwise.
He watched as she saved a small kit from the grasp of Death when his master found no more use for him. Her eyes lit with anger and hate as she cursed the master with all her strength, holding the kit to her breast as her clothing slapped against itself in the wind.
The slave's Master raised his hand in rage, unaware that it was the Princess of their human lord he was about to strike.
It was the worst mistake that human could have ever made in his pathetic life.
The only thing he heard was a roar and what sounded like the earth shaking. He turned around, only to meet darkness and acidic breath.
~~~~*~~~~
"You dare strike the princess of the west? You dare strike the daughter to Lord Higurashi?" His voice boomed over the town, demanding obedience and worship but most of all he demanded fear. His face elongated, maroon stripes turned jagged and his eyes blinked between red and that golden hue.
The little princess shuddered in his presence; his power was overwhelming...even to a priestess of her caliber.
"Your punishment for this crime is death." He snarled out from his dog jaws and sharp teeth, the transformation complete. "A slow and painful death."
The man's body twisted in positions that it shouldn't have. His screams and cries of pain and terror echoed through the quiet of the town. The people watched in horror as the once prominent man in their town was devoured by the acidic poison. The poison burnt his flesh, ate away at the veins, coursed to his heart...you could almost hear it pop as the stress induced by the venom tore through it.
The large demon watched with its eyes content. Soon all that was left of the pathetic human was the smell of burning flesh and a puddle of blood, ooze, and flesh bits.
Kagome cried out as the demon's eyes rounded on her; she clutched the baby fox closer. "You."
She shivered and backed away, the kit tucked securely in her arms. Primitive instincts of protection arose in her, not knowing what to expect from this great beast.
"Princess," He growled out lowly, not because he was angry, but because his body's vocal cords in this form wouldn't have it any other way. "Come. I wish to speak with your parents."
"I cannot trust you."
"Good." He sniffed around her, his teeth latching onto her clothes and tossing both her and the kit onto his back. "You shouldn't. Fear keeps you alive."
~~~~*~~~~~
It seemed only a minute's span before they reached her home by the sea. She had the kit to her chest, protecting him from the harsh winds and cold that bit at her sensitive skin. This dog beast hadn't hurt them, as he had said he wouldn't, and had brought her home.
"Mama!" She cried out. Guards stared back questioningly. "Find my parents!"
The guards moved forward to protect their princess, only to see her eyes widen in fear at their approach.
"Do not come closer." His voice boomed, not a bestial tone but an almost melodic one. The voice she heard before the beast. "I will not tolerate your insolence."
They hesitated, worried for their princess. "My lady..."
"Go. I know he is more than capable of what you might already think." She shuddered as she spoke. The kit looked at her questioningly, his fiery red hair lying loosely on his small shoulders. Soothingly, she passed her fingers through the silky red locks. "Hush. No harm will come to you, little kit."
He gulped and burrowed farther into her chest.
It didn't take long until her parents rushed out of the castle. Her mother's eyes were weepy and distraught and her father's were fierce and angry, angry that someone would dare think to harm his child.
"Lord Sesshoumaru." Her father bowed. "You have come earlier than expected."
"I have." His voice was liquid gold, scalding if you touch it yet so beautiful you couldn't look away. "It is time. Give your daughter to me. I have let her be with you far long enough."
"Lord Sesshoumaru!" Her mother cried. "Please, do not take her from us. She...I...please just do not take her!"
"It is preordained, woman." He scolded lightly, a clawed finger passed gently on Kagome's high cheekbones. "You read the letter. You read the words. Nothing you offer, no matter how much you beg, or plead to me; the words written cannot be taken back."
"Mama...What is happening?" Kagome's soft voice spoke up from the upset and depressing words.
"His father," She wept. "His father prophesized you to be his mate, you fit the description and the prophesy must be met."
"What prophesy?" She cried out. "What are you talking about?"
"'Silken raven-wing hair and eyes as blue as the deepest part of the sea.'" The dog demon lord murmured into her ear. "You are the one."
"There are others!" Kagome said. "Other girls with eyes like mine."
"But none match your beauty, or your ability to attract many suitors." His lip pulled over his fangs in a half snarl, half smirk. "Submit and fulfill the prophesy."
"It is not my prophesy! None of it would harm me if I didn't go through with it!" She retaliated.
The guards of the castle gathered around should the demon start to fight. They watched with interested eyes as their fiery priestess fought a battle of wills with the Lord of the West.
"I could make it be of worth to you, my little human." He snarled and grasped her forearm. "But believe me; you do not want anything harmful to befall upon your parents, do you?"
She gasped in horror. "You wouldn't!"
"Wouldn't I?" He sneered. "Gather your items, Princess. This place is no longer your home. You are mine, you belong to me."
All her parents could do was weep.
~~~~*~~~~~
Soon all of her belongings were gathered and her one servant, Umi, cried to come with her. "You'll be alone, my lady!"
"I do not think he would allow you to come." She replied sadly. "He is fearsome."
"Tell him you'll not be happy if you don't bring me too."
"Somehow," Kagome smirked dryly. "I don't think he'll care."
"Please try." Umi begged. "If you leave me here, I'll be sold. Your Lady Mother and Lord Father haven't the room for me. They don't have any need for me either. Please don't leave me here!"
"I shall ask." Kagome said tiredly. "Do not expect anything for I do not know this demon or his mind."
~~~~*~~~~
He allowed her this one pleasure, for it would be her last in a long time.
His hand gripped her shoulder as he led her from her ancestral home and into his demon carriage led by a monstrous two-headed tatsu (dragon).
Her mother was sick and hysterical with sadness, only her father watched her leave.
Her eyes stayed with her father's until they passed into the forest.
Goodbye.
~~~~*~~~~
The castle was enormous, ominous, frightening. It was every awful word her mind could conjure. Winged demon guards held sentry over the gates, their eagle-like eyes scanned over the horizons and forest edges for danger. Kagome watched one from her window seat. The bird-male stared back, unblinking, uncaring, cocking its head in such away that if the situation had been different she would have laughed.
If only the situation were different. It wasn't.
"This is your new home, Princess and servant." He addressed them both. "Take care not to stray far. Demons tend to not take too friendly to humans...they take even worse to priestesses."
Her stomach lurched at his words and she stared into the frightened eyes of Umi.
Relax. She tried to say but nothing came out. Fear only entices them.
Umi started to hyperventilate and Kagome quietly brushed her fingers through Umi's hair. Slowly the servant calmed and Kagome allowed her time to weep. "I am scared too, but we'll be fine Umi. You and I, we will be okay."
Sesshoumaru watched this through hooded eyes. The princess was caring, beautiful, fierce and wily. She proved her mothering skills with the kit, which she regrettably left behind. Her mother offered him a place to live until he could live on his own. Although he despised her kind, he couldn't help but watch her curves beneath her priestess clothes. She was muscle, yet she was female. This little priestess wasn't like the rest of the female population. She was strong.
He wouldn't have it any other way.
~~~~*~~~~
A few weeks later, garbed in her ceremonial dress she knelt before the monk who shakily preformed the wedding. He was frightened and she couldn't blame him. After all, he was in a room which was filled to the brim with human-hating demons.
The only reason why she was having a human wedding as well was because of her parents' requests.
The demon "marriage" or mating could be preformed in their bedroom... alone.
Tears coursed down her cheeks but she wouldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing the sadness in her eyes. She steeled and stared directly into his golden ones. Cruel amusement filled his amber orbs and he flashed his fang with an upturned curl of his lip.
Her glare clashed head on with his stare. Two could play at this game, only one would win it.
~~~~*~~~~
Her arms were bruised and her face feeling quite raw from the salty tears. He dragged her behind him, towards their chambers. She could feel the stares of the demon servants in the castle; their awful stares and cruel taunts directed towards her and her servant.
"Our poor lord...having to mate with such an unworthy female." Some would say.
It isn't like I want to! She screamed in her mind. He tugged harder on her wrist, causing her to hiss out.
"Quit lingering in the hall, female." He sneered.
She bared her teeth back and he tugged again, just as rough as the last time.
The room was dark and foreboding, it made her feel more frightened. Black curtains swayed in the cool summer's night breeze and the moonlight danced over the red silken bedspread.
"Come." He murmured. His large clawed hand was still wrapped around her wrist and she stared at it, in a trancelike way
She jerked back and he wrapped his fingers in the hair at the nape of her neck, dragging her back to him.
His cupid bow lips brushed over the shell of her ear, down to her jaw line, over the large vein in her throat. He brushed his fangs over the spot between her neck and shoulder, just near the beginnings of her muscle where it was just soft flesh. "You will enjoy this."
Rage bubbled in her eyes and he reveled in it. "Let me go!"
"Ah, ah!" He purred. "For there to be a mating, one must mate."
"I don't want you!"
"What you want doesn't matter anymore." He spoke. "Nothing matters anymore. You are mine that is all that is important. Remember that."
His claws ripped at her ceremonial dress and she could distantly hear the shredding of the fabric wrapping around her breasts. She stared at the wall as his lips brushed her chest, latching onto her bud of a nipple. His claws dragged carelessly over her thigh and she set her nails into his back. He bit her neck in reprimand.
She drew back into herself.
The pain!
He was hot, heavy; it didn't feel like she heard the servants talk about. It hurt, she wasn't prepared. He wasn't kind enough to do so for her. She screamed out with every movement, thrust, and she tried bucking him off but he just growled out his pleasure and dragged his tongue down her neck before latching onto his mark.
A spark of ...something shot down into her abdomen and she whimpered, closing her legs around his lean hips. She felt him smirk against her neck and he ground his hips sinfully into hers.
It didn't take long before she was crying out her forced completion, his claw cut his neck and he pressed her lips against it. She fought him but in the end she submitted because it would do her no good to go against him. He would have his way one way or another.
This was how it was. No woman had her choice in her husband or mate. It was either be miserable or accept it. Live with it or die because of it.
Soon he fell to the lure of sleep, moon spun silk hair flowing over the red silk bed sheets. His beauty was astounding, as was his cruelty and harsh words. He was the fire that was beautiful to the eye but harmful to the touch. He just was.
Kagome slipped out of the bed and walked out to the balcony, no longer wishing to think about the demon that lay in the bed.
She stared out over the lands, the wolf cried a solemn song and she breathed out a sigh. These were her lands now. Unwanted or not, she would help her mate take care of them as was her duty.
Kagome knew she was no fairytale princess, and he was no fairytale prince but it could have been worse. He could have killed her many times.
But for that prophesy...
She looked towards the corner of the room. Tetsusaiga and Tenseiga sat, propped against the stone wall next to the burning fire.
She edged closer and touched one.
It pulsed.
She cried out and backed away, falling against a solid chest.
"They reacted to you."
"Reacted?"
He leaned down and bared his fangs against his mark. "They only reacted to my father. Touch them again."
Kagome hesitated and reached forward. The sword, Tetsusaiga thrummed with power and she picked it up. "What does this mean?"
Sesshoumaru smirked and pulled Tetsusaiga from its sheath. The sword pulsed and Kagome held her hand up to her heart. The pulsing was in sync with her heart beat, she stared in awe.
"The prophesy?"
Sesshoumaru laughed, a coarse laugh, but a laugh none the less. "What else?"
With a strong and solid thrust of his arm; Tetsusaiga transformed into a rather large sword with fur rimming its handle.
Sesshoumaru smiled, a true smile, and sheathed the sword back. He propped it against the wall and turned to face her.
Come, my priestess." Sesshoumaru grasped her arm, nearly healed with the aid of his blood. "Sleep now; we shall speak more of this in the morning."
This was how the life of a young woman was in this day and age.
A possession. A treasure. A prophesy. A weapon.
They belonged to their male.
Just as Kagome belonged to hers.
Just a possession.

AuthorsNote: Another one shot. Not so quick. Took me 3-4 hours to write. My ass is numb. I also pulled this fanfic outta my ass. I hope its kind of okay. My boyfriend wouldn't leave me the hell alone while I was writing it. He's not an anime fan so you can guess he was poking fun at me.
Review if you liked it, or have any corrections that you see needed to be made. Flames will not be tolerated, as stated in my bio. They will be laughed at and made fun of. Profusely.
