Halloween

Dear Diary,

It's easier to say something then to actually do it.

That was what I had been told as I was growing up. Then again everything is easier to say isn't it? You're in your own little world. You are the ruler of you own mind and everything you say goes. That's just how everyone's mind is.

Growing up I had been taught to be courteous to people. I had been told not to hate people because of the color of their skin. It was qualified as inferior thinking and I believed that it was true.

However, no matter how much you want to believe that, it is an impossible feat. Everyone dislikes a race because of his or her experiences with that particular race. Sometimes the experience is bad, and sometimes it is very bad; even life changing.

You may not believe me when I say this, but if you were to hear me out, you might start to understand what I mean.

It was in the evening. By evening, I mean that the sun was still out and I could see across the street without any lights.

Recently there had been a kidnapping in the city. I lived in a small city, where you could bike from one side of the city to the other in about 20 minutes or so. If something happened on one side it was the same as happening on the other side.

There were two high schools in my town. One was called Red Stock High and the other was called Green Valley High. I went to Green Valley High School, just saying.

So there had been a kidnapping. It was a girl in the 12th grade from Red Stock High. A dark colored man wearing a blue jacket kidnapped her. After being forced into the car she had been driven a few cities over where she was sexually harassed.

However she had luckily escaped and is safely back in her home.

Well I had come home from school and my dad told me that I would be able to go trick or treating only if he came a long with me, and my younger brother. I was distraught. I was old enough to go on my own. What were the chances that something like that would happen in the crowded area?

After much deliberation my dad agreed and said if there were two guys who came along with me and my friend then he would let me go.

Later that night I happily awaited my friends to come over. We were planning on going around my neighborhood and trick – or – treating at the houses nearby.

At roughly 7:10PM my doorbell rang. My first friend had arrived. Then at 7:15PM my two other friends arrived and soon after we were on our way to get candy.

Skipping over the meaningless details, we had been trick – or – treating for about an hour and we had some nice candies. We decided to go down a busy street to reach a house, where the man would do a magic trick and give candy out.

However, what I hadn't planned was our night to go sour.

About 200 yards onto the street there was a gang of dark skinned boys standing on the other side of the street. They made loud noises as they blocked cars and the next thing that happened I would, probably, never forget.

Two of the boys came over to my friend who was a girl, and another one of my friends who was a boy. The dark skinned boy pushed the girl into a fence. He had grabbed her bag of candy and proceeded towards the boy.

I was frozen. This was all happening before my eyes but it was as if time had slowed down for me and sped up for them.

They went to the boy. First one boy, then 2, then 3, 4, 5, 6, etc... The grabbed his candy, or at least tried but he wouldn't let go. They punched him repeatedly and once they were done with him they threw him to the floor, kicked him one last time and left with the two bags of candy.

My boyfriend and I were left untouched.

We all headed back to a house that we had recently been to. The people were nice and we felt safe about going back there. There we received the help we needed but I was lost in my thoughts.

What would have happened if I had tried to help out my friend?

Would they have hurt me too?

Would they have run away?

Would this have happened if we went the other way?

Yet I questioned myself if one day I had children would I let them go trick – or – treating?

I guess we might never know.

Kagome Higurashi

"What are you up to Kagome?"

I looked behind me. "Nothing Sesshomaru just thinking about Halloween." I replied.

"I'll always protect you." Sesshomaru comforted her.

"I know... I love you too..."

Readers.

So what do you guys think? :) I think it seemed a little bit rushed.
