I Missed You
Disclaimer- I don't own Inuyasha. If I did, Kukukukuku! Well. . .nevermind.
Amarioko: The poems were written by me and I know they're not much but I like em', so nyah! Sesshoumaru calls Kagome a miko because she is one, it isn't just a nickname so don't complain.
Chapter one: Dreams of the past
Higurashi, Kagome's bedroom:
Beads of sweat poured down her beautiful pale face. She whimpered, tossing and turning in her bed. Her sheets twined around her legs, stretched tight to the point of leaving red welts. She cried out. Her past had come to haunt her once more. Coming this time in her dream. The day she had to leave. It all came rushing back. The day she left her friends, her home, and Him.
Dream sequence:
Nine years ago. . .
Kagome's Pov
I panted, running as fast as my legs could take me. To Him, my best friend. He was the only one who understood me.
(A/n: Regular Pov now)
Her beautiful azure eyes glittered with fresh tears, remembering what her mother had said to her.

"Kagome. . .," Mrs. Higurashi shook her daughter lightly. "Uhnn," Kagome rubbed her eye with a small fist. "Mommy?" Sad brown eyes stared down at the child in bed. Oh how she wished she didn't have to break her baby's heart. She broke down. "Oh Kagome!" She sobbed. Kagome looked startled. Her mother's eyes were now brimmed with tears. "Ma'ma?" She whispered in a worried tone. "Mommy got a job offering," Mrs. Higurashi started and Kagome smiled happily, but it soon faded with the next batch of words from her mother's lips.
"In America, sweetie. We have to move." Kagome mouthed the word. 'Move.' It was a foreign word to her, they'd never had to move before, It had always been them and their shrine. ". . .Why?" Her mother looked up in surprise, "what?" Kagome looked up from her fingers clenched in her blanket. "Why do we have to go?" A sad smiled graced her mother's face. "We can't live like this anymore. Scraping for money and scrambling to pay the bills and barely having enough money to buy groceries. . ." Kagome lit up suddenly and said, "We can stay with Sesshou!" Mrs. Higurashi furrowed her brows. "No dear, we can't." Kagome deflated. ". . .Why not?"
"Because dear," She reached for her daughter's hand, "We have to stand on our own feet, we can't live off your friend, no matter how wealthy he is. He can't support us." Kagome slapped her hand away and looked up with saddened but angry eyes. "Why can't I stay with Sesshou?!" She cried, "why are making me leave him?!" Her mother flinched and her eyes showed pain she had repressed. "I. . . I. .," she slumped onto the bed and shook with sobs. Kagome almost regretted being so mean. Almost. But, her mommy was being mean, too!
She jumped out of bed and didn't bother to change clothes or even put on shoes. She grabbed her brown coat, with fur on the trimming, and slipped it on before running down the stairs. It was when she was halfway down the stairs when she remembered: The Locket!
She ran back up their stairs flying into her room and passed her mother, she felt guilty as she saw her still crying on the bed. It was no time for guilty thoughts, though. She was moving. She needed to warn her best friend, needed to say goodbye.
As she neared the door once more she whispered two soft words, "I'm sorry." Mrs. Higurashi's head rose a little but before she could speak her daughter was gone.
She was going to the place they would always meet. Their place. She knew her mother would call them. His parents. She knew she would get a scolding for this later. . .but she just had to see him! She had to say goodbye. He was her best friend, her first friend. The only one who understood her.

A broken sob escaped from trembling lips as she ran blindly, her body automatically taking her in the right direction. How could her mother do that to her? To accept a job so far away with even asking her!
It's not fair! She cried in her mind, I was good. I tried my best in school! Why is she punishing me like this? Tears blurred his vision as the park came into view. There he was! How did he know? He always amazed her.
She hiccuped and he looked her way. His molten gaze so intense as it shifted to her. He was beautiful, her best friend. His silvery hair trailed down his back and fluttered in the cool morning breeze. The sun rose behind him, giving his hair a golden and orange sheen.
This was her best friend. Her Sesshoumaru. He, at the age of eight and her, at the age of six have been the best of friends since she was three. He smiled at her and she smiled back. Or, at least tried to. Seeing him this way... He looked so happy and she didn't want to that that away. "S-sess..." It was a broken whisper and his eyes instantly changed. The once happy golden hues now held a look of deep worry.
Oh Sesshou. . . She thought as angry tears ran down her face, I'm going to miss you so much!
She ran towards him and he instantly opened his arms for her hug.
Her black pajama bottoms were now damp with the morning dew, the silver lining glittering majestically as they embraced in the morning glow.
One hand buried in her hair and another wrapped around her small shoulders while she clung to him around his waist, they looked quite the pair. A darling little couple. It was a shame it would end so soon.
"What troubles you Kagome?" She smiled into his shirt. He was so mature. She was sure he wouldn't take this as hard as she did, being so adult-like as he was. "M-my mom got a job offering..." She sniffled. Sesshoumaru smiled, "My congra-"
"In America." He frowned, "Pardon?" Looking up at him through messy bangs she replied. "We're leaving, Sesshou. Me and my mother are moving to America tomorrow." His arms tightened around her and he didn't want to let go. No, not her. He thought, She's the only anchor I have left in this world. Without her. . . He shook his head. This doesn't matter now. He looked down at his crying companion. She needs me.
"I don't want to go!" She cried and clung to him tighter. "Kagome. . ." She shook her head. "Kagome." He said sternly. She raised her head and he wiped her tears away with his thumb, his claw brushing lightly against her flushed cheek.
"I wish you didn't have to go, but I know this must be important to your mother if she would go to such lengths without telling you first." He could smell the sorrow and anger mixing with her scent and knew she was still upset about her mother not telling her beforehand. He took her by the shoulders and shook her gently.
"You must understand that your mother only wants what is best for you, even if it hurts now it will get better." His heart clenched as he said these words, he didn't want to encourage her to forget about him but knew it was the only way. "You must forgive your mother and forget about me, thinking of the past will only bring you pain." He paused and smiled as she shook her head fiercely.
"I would never forget you, Sesshoumaru!" She exclaimed and he knew she never would. She only called him by his full name when she was really serious. "And I you, Kagome." She smiled brightly as she hugged him once more. "Sesshou...," She suddenly whispered, were it not for his hearing he never would have caught it. "You promise?" He wrapped his arms around her as he replied, "I promise."
He felt his breath catch as she beamed at him and he knew he could never forget that smile. "Good. Oh!" she squeaked cutely as she pulled something from her pocket and placed it in his clawed hand. She blushed. "I... got this for you a while ago." She said bashfully, making circles in the grass with her small toes.
He looked down at the silver chain in his palm and raised it up with a finger. It was a locket. He smiled at the coincidence and looked at it more closely. Gold coiled in dainty little swirls on the heart shaped locket, circling around to wrap around a medium sized ruby in the middle.
This locket must have cost her a fortune and I know she and her mother needed that money. A twinge of guilt prodded at him before he pushed it away. Nevertheless, my little miko has given this locket to me and I will cherish it.
He opened the clasp that held the locket closed and read the words carved inside, the soft melody playing reaching his keen ears with gentle tunes.
(The first half of Sango's theme plays.)
I hate the way this has to end,
because you are my one true friend,
I know very much what is at stake,
but know this bond I'll never break,
I love you more than I can take,
something such as this I can never fake,
So love me just as I love you,
because when I wake up
I'll have you know,
the first thing I do
is think of you.

He looked up after reading it and gave her a searching look. She blushed hard and stuttered, "M-my m-mom helped me m-make it." He blushed and grinned a little before clasping the necklace around his neck. "Thank you, my little miko." He said in a suave voice and she giggled softly, pecking him on the cheek. A soft tinge of red caressed his striped cheeks and he cleared his throat nervously.
"I have something of my own for you, as well."
From his pocket he withdrew a dark violet box and inside held his own locket, his in a large oval instead of the heart shape hers was. And instead of silver his was a pure gold. "Mother wanted me to give it to "The one" but you're the closest thing I have to it." He grinned as she placed her palms on her burning cheeks and turned away. "Th-thank you Sesshou..." He smiled, "You're very welcome, Kagome."
As she opened the box the lid creaked and she gasped at the inside. It was so pretty! A bright smile lit her features as she examined the fine jewelry. A dark blue crescent moon curved around a small silver star in the middle, plainly stating that this locket and the wearer were in protection on the Inu clan.
Sesshoumaru's family.
My mate, my love you'll forever be,
Always a part of my family tree
Should you leave I wish you to know,
If you wear this locket,
You carry a piece of me
I'm with you,
Wherever you go
She beamed up at him and he couldn't resist. He leaned down and she leaned up. . . He kissed her. It was her first kiss. An innocent kiss between loving friends. As he pulled away he said the words he wished he'd never have to, "Good bye, Kagome." Her eyes filled with tears and she slowly backed away. She was hesitant to leave; but knew if she didn't leave now she never would. Her mother would have to come find her and drag her away kicking and screaming.
She turned a fled, looking back only once to look into saddened golden eyes.
He closed his eyes and turned away, slowly walking back towards his home.
She watched him walk away, her little heart clenching painfully as she knew this would be the last time.
She wouldn't see him for a long time. . . She might even never see him again.
A sob tore from her throat and she yelled out, "SESSHOU!" It was too late. He was already gone.
- - -
Kagome sat up in a rush, tears already coating her throat. Her hands covered her face as she tried in vain to muffle her crying. "Sesshou. . .," She sobbed out. "Sesshou..."
She had promised she would never forget. She never did, but Sesshoumaru was right about one thing.
Thinking about the past did bring her pain, but it always brought such warmth to her heart.
Sesshou. . .
Amarioko: I hope the poems were okay, I'm not much of a poet but I wanted the lockets to be special.Eh, Bai bai!
