++++Flashback++++
"Hurry Kagome, hide in here until I can tell everyone who you are and why you're here"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!!!! We'll be together forever, I promise!!"
|Four Hours Later|
"Strap it down InuYasha!"
"I'm trying sir!!!! The rope's too slick!!"
"This storm should be over soon, just do as I say!"
"Yes sir!!!!"
++++End Flashback++++
Kagome sat on the edge of the ship now, two days had passed and no one had even talked to her, she had been sleeping on the deck.
The ship was a large Brigantine. The ship was so large that it had to have two masts to keep it afloat on the rough seas. It had great speed despite its size, and did well in long battles. This ship was not made to have a quick hit and run; it was made to last throughout long, sometimes days long, battles. This ship had a particularly large cargo space. And that was where Kagome found herself her first day out at sea. But that soon ended.
'I wonder what they'll do with me...' Kagome thought as she sat and watched the men work on the ship, pulling ropes, strapping things down, wash the deck, and most of all, give her strange looks.
"Miss. Higorashi, come with me" A deep baritone voice told her, she looked over to see a tall man with silver hair, molten gold eyes, shabby cloths (although that wasn't any different than the rest of the men), and maroon stripes glaring at her. Kagome knew him to be the captain. InuYasha had told her so.
"Hai sir"
Kagome followed this strange man to the other end of the ship and into a seemingly large room below decks. He offered her a seat on one side of what seemed to be a desk and he sat on the other.
Kagome fiddled with her light purple dress. She had worn this particular dress because it was her most durable and she knew she would need it if she was to be on a pirate ship for (possibly) many months.
Sesshomaru glared at the woman sitting across from him.
'Damn you InuYasha. How dare you bring her aboard my ship.'
"Speak." He finally said.
"Um...pardon me?"
"Speak. Why are you here? What is your relationship with my late crew member InuYasha? How did you know him? And what did he tell you?"
When he spoke InuYasha's name Kagome's eyes began to water.
'InuYasha I need you...you promised me!!'
"Ummmm well... you see when you and your crew landed in my town a week ago I was sitting in my garden when some of your crew came and were sacking my village. At first I was afraid but...one of them talked to me. He said he promised none of you would hurt anyone, you just needed food. So I told him I would make his crew a large amount of food to take with you so you wouldn't have to steel it from the poor town. After four days...he told me he loved me and...I had grown to love him too, so he told me to come with him, he said that we would run away at the next stop your ship took, and we would be together. So I packed a small bag and left a small note to my family and he helped me hide in the cargo area of your ship. Oh but don't worry! He told me that he would tell you soon that I was here so you wouldn't be mad."
Sesshomaru gave the onna a cruel look. Her long, waist length black hair billowed over her shoulder and sat in her lap. Her bright blue eyes were downcast and full of tears. Her mouth was set in a sad, perfect line, but despite all of this, her posture was still the best he had ever seen, on a lady or a man.
"So, In other words InuYasha planned to betray me for you next month when we landed in Taiwan?"
"I...I don't know how to answer that sir." Kagome said, letting a single tear fall from her brimming eyes.
Sesshomaru decided he wanted to see the rest of those tears fall, just to make her feel ashamed.
"So then the very first day out to sea, a large storm came. InuYasha was strapping a cannon down when the one another crew member was supposed to be strapping down slid on the slick deck and crushed him to death. And you were stuck in the cargo area, not knowing what happened to your poor InuYasha." Sesshomaru finished with a snarl.
The rest of the tears in Kagome's eyes fell and she put her hands over her mouth. She suddenly felt like throwing up. She knew he had died, but no one had bothered to tell her how until now. The captain had ordered that no one speak to her.
'InuYasha...I'm so sorry. I love you'
Sesshomaru watched the girl shed tears for his late crew member. 'Why are onna always the downfall of men?'
"Do you not see this as a sign? Onna should not be allowed on ships, it causes problems. Do you not think Kami was punishing InuYasha for his disobedience for bringing you along? Did you not think it was your fault that he's DEAD?" Sesshomaru finished in a yell and Kagome was staring at him with her bright blue eyes full of tears and fear. Fear of him.
Sesshomaru sighed and put a long pale hand to his forehead.
'What am I going to do with her now? I wont kill her, I can't kill an onna unless she's a pirate herself...but obviously she isn't, if the way she's dressed and the fact that her hair is washed is any indication.'
"Alright onna, I'll let you stay on this ship until we reach Taiwan. Then you're on your own."
Kagome had been staring at him the whole time so all she had to do was widen her eyes at this. 'He's letting me stay? I won't be killed?'
"You're not going to kill me? I won't be sworded, or shot, or made to walk the plank, or starved to death?"
"No, I don't kill onna, unless they're pirates. And you are most certainly not a pirate."
Kagome looked at the captain with new admiration. Maybe he wasn't as cruel as InuYasha had made him out to be.
'InuYasha...'
"You will take the negotiations room."
Kagome looked at him in question.
"It is the room in which other pirates stay in when we are negotiating things. You could call it the guest's room."
"Oh..."
Sesshomaru waved a hand at the door, signaling for her to leave.
Kagome stood and bowed to him respectfully and walked to the door. She opened it but before she left she turned to him.
"Arigato Sesshomaru-Sama...you are not as bad as they make you out to be"
Then Kagome shut the door quietly.
