She was dead. Well, perhaps not yet, but she certainly was going to die soon. It was imminent really, and there was nothing she could do to prevent it. She would have sighed in resignation if it weren't for the fact that every breath caused her unbearable pain.
There had been a great battle. She remembered that much. They had finally faced down Naraku after all these years. They had been convinced that they were more than ready; up to snuff with anything he could dish out.
They had been wrong.
It had seemed to be going well at first. Inuyasha was getting in many good hits at the opposing hanyou. Sango had done an excellent job of keeping the minor beasts at bay so that he could fight their enemy one on one. And although those damn poisonous bugs had been so dense in the atmosphere that they had caused the bright afternoon sun to disappear, Miroku had still been on the front lines, fighting beside the taijiya. Only Kagome had been left further back, waiting for the opportune moment to purify the vile hanyou.
That moment had never come.
Instead, she had been forced to watch as each of her friends fell before Naraku. She couldn't recall how everything had happened, the physical pain was too much and her body refused to let her suffer emotionally and mentally as well. All she knew was that she too had been cut down. Inuyasha had still been standing as one of Naraku's tentacles wrapped around her middle, picked her up and threw her into the forest. But as she had laid there, trying to fight the pain, trying to get up despite her injuries, she had heard Inuyasha scream.
And then it had been silent.
She had stopped fighting, quit trying to force away the pain. She let herself go and lost consciousness. She let the darkness take her. She wanted to be with her friends, with him, even if that could only happen in death.
There was nothing left to fight for.
And yet the fates mocked her. She was still alive, barely, and yet undoubtedly so. She had wished for death, begged for it, and yet she found no release. The pain was worse now, and even had she wanted to move, she would not have been able to. She was going to pass out again; she could feel it coming. Maybe this time the Kami would feel pity and let her die. Yet the Gods refused her pleas.
They had other plans.

All of this work saved up in my hard drive, and finally I am doing something about it! Woo-hoo!
Anyway, I hope you can keep tabs on all the shit I'm posting. I know it's going to be tough, it's a prodigious body of work. But, be happy that I have so many little muses buzzing in my ear.
That's it I guess. I know this chapter is short, but it's what I like to call a prologue. Hehehe. Longer chaps to come, but I have decided to stick to chaps around 1000-1500 words max. It allows me a little more freedom, and you all don't have to read mini-novels every night.
