The Phases of The Moon

The night was dark and full of stars. Kagome stared at the stars unable to sleep. She glanced over to her team mates. All asleep. She turned back to the heavens. Wow it was so beautiful. Stars and stars were placed on the sky. It was so beautiful. She could stare at it all day long. The wind touched her soft cheeks. Her mouth curved to a smile as she lay down in the grass with her hands spread out against the lush grass. Her eyes moved to the moon. A waxing crescent was placed on the sky. The tiny sliver of the crest always reminded her of sesshoumaru.

Why did he carry the mark of it? She would wonder. Sesshoumaru was always a strange one and kagome wondered about his feelings. A person can't just hate and kill because they feel like it. Sesshoumaru must have deep feelings hidden within. But something made him crack. Something made him isolate the world from him. Kagome wanted everyone to be happy but for sesshoumaru it seems that it was impossible.

Kagome let her eye lids fall down and she tried to sleep. Unable to do so kagome stood up and stretched. 'Well can't hurt to take a walk ne?' she thought as she slowly guided herself to the forest.

She sniffed the good clean air. She smelt so many things. Fresh scent of rain that has gone by and ............blood? Why is there blood in the heart of the forest?! Kagome looked around. She saw nothing but the scent was so clear. Kagome ran in the direction of the blood. What happen if someone's hurt?! Maybe if she ran fast enough she could save them.

She pushed the tree's aside and the twigs. In the clearing there were two figures. One big one and a small on that were near the big one. "Ano..." kagome started as she walked closer. She took a good look it was sesshoumaru! His kimono was covered in blood. In filthy disgusting blood! It was covered in it I tell you. The crimson red ran through his hair and down to his hakama. How could he survive this!?

Kagome's eyes widened but she said "sesshoumaru? Daijoubou?" she looked over to Rin that was crying and sniffing.

Sesshoumaru merely looked at kagome and then stared at the ground. He didn't seem angry that she was near him. He didn't seem to be mad that she was talking to him. In fact he seemed peaceful and calm. He just sat there and waited for kagome to do something.

Kagome rushed to Rins side and carried her in her chest like a mother. "Its okay Rin stop crying I'll try to help sesshoumaru I promise!!" she said doing her best to calm down the crying girl.

Rin continued to cry and sob until kagome wrapped an arm around the small child and said. "Relax I'll help him. I won't let him die. I promise you" kagome looked over to sesshoumaru. He seemed to be staring at her.

His amber eyes gazed at the woman. Hope seemed to be shining from his eyes but doshte? What was he thinking of. His eyes showed unknown emotions. Sesshoumaru twisted his head the other way and he closed his eyes, letting his lids fall down on his honey gazed eye.

Kagome bent over to sesshoumaru. His wounds were very serious. He was in a great deal of pain but he didn't show it. Well that's sesshoumaru for you, the greatest taiyoukai ever. Kagome touched his arm to see the damage but as soon as she did his eyes snapped wide open. "Human" he said.

"Stay still please sesshoumaru I need to heal your wounds." Kagome said as she took his arm and touched his wounds.

She looked at sesshoumaru. His eyes scrunched up and pulled away. "Show some respect and don't ever touch me disgusting human" he glared at her.

Kagome got angry. "Well sorry sesshoumaru Sama! I was just trying to save your life!! And you know what if you don't want to stay alive then to bad I'm going to help you one way or the other! Baka!" she picked up his arm and began to try to heal it again once more.

Sesshoumaru glared daggers at her. His piercing glaze held deep hatred.

"Human" he started "never use that tone with this sesshoumaru" he commanded.

'How mean!' kagome thought as she tried to heal some slashes on his arm. 'Well better stay silent I don't want to have a fight with him. If he heals he'll probably get really mad at me' kagome sighed. 'Why aren't there ever decent boys in my life?'

Sesshoumaru stared at the woman. He was in shock though his face showed no emotion at all. No human of this age dared to touch him. They all feared him because he could kill then in one slash. But this woman was different she accepted anyone. She loved that kitsune, Shippou? I believe his name was. She was so kind to everyone always treated them with love.

Would she accept him?

He was a beast. A monster, born to kill. His soul was tainted with blood and malice. No one accepted him for that. Everyone either looked at him with hatred or fear. But no kagome looked at him with anger. She had even agreed to help him.

All his life he fought alone. Him against the world. He had to struggle. He was rejected from his parents. They only respected him and never gave him love.

The way kagome looked at him. That way was different. He realized something though. When he was able to get a good look at her eyes they held deep concern. She was very worried about him and he had tried to kill her. Many of times. She was so foolish. She was stupid.

She was an idiot

She was retarded

She was................

Wait. If she was all those then why? Why did his heart beat go just a little faster when she touched him? Why did she make him feel this way? What is so important about her? After all she was like the rest. She was a filthy piece of shit like the others.

Sesshoumaru turned his head and waited for the human to heal his wounds. After kagome did all she could she had nothing to do but to talk.

"So how did you meet Rin?" kagome asked.

"None of your concern" he replied coldly.

"Why are you so cold?"

"Why should you care?" kagome laughed at this. "Nani? Why is it that you find this to be funny?"

"Sorry I just think that it's weird that a great taiyoukai like you could be stuck like this. You're always boasting about how good you are and stuff like that. Look at you now" kagome giggled a bit and then continue to heal his wounds.

Sesshoumaru growled at the woman. How dare she say that! That was an insult! No one should dare talk to him in that tone! But then sesshoumaru relaxed a little and sat back down.

Kagome noticed this and looked at him. She had expected him to shout or try to hurt her. But he didn't. That was strange was he feeling alright? Perhaps he hit his head? Kagome tried to get her mind off of him and sat down besides him.

Sesshoumaru felt the young miko stop her treatment. Sesshoumaru laid back more and let sleep overcome him. Soon nothing could be heard but the breathing of the taiyoukai and the small 12 year old girl beside sesshoumaru.

Kagome watched the two sleeps. It was like a family. Sesshoumaru's the father and Rin is the young daughter. But as usual there was something wrong. A mother was missing from the group. Oh well maybe Rin will get a nanny or something it wasn't her problem. Kagome was worried a bit for Rin although. Rin was just a young girl and she had lost both her parents. It's so much for a kid to handle. Kagome wished that she could help Rin. Just a little bit or at least give her a good family.

During the time that sesshoumaru was asleep kagome heard many things. She heard of his childhood and family. What he did and what he had felt. She was amazed that he went through so much. He had a hard life. And that hard life molded him into the cold taiyoukai he is today. Kagome wished that she could help him out too. She felt pity for him. No not pity but deep compassion. She really didn't want all those things to happen to him. It was so sad.

Kagome shook her head. What the fuck was she talking about?! Sesshoumaru always tried to kill her. She should think of him as a bastard!

Kagome looked into the skies once more. The clouds were out and the sun was just about to head up. What the fuck!?? The suns going to come out???!! She had to get to Inuyasha! He's probably going to question her if she's late! Kagome looked at the two once more and said. "Gomen nasai sesshoumaru"

Kagome turned her back and took off.

Sesshoumaru opened his eyes. "Kagome" he whispered. Yes he had been awake for quite a while now. He had heard every word of what she had just said. Why did she sorry to him? Was it because she had not completed healing him? Or something else.

He didn't understand it. This emotions bubbling up inside of him were mysterious. Why did he feel this way about a ningen woman? What was it that made her strange and appealing to him?

He stopped. Sesshoumaru convinced that this was the only time he will see her like that again. He will never have to deal with emotions again and he will be glad of that. He closed his eyes and said one last time. 'She won't come back for me.'

But she did. And many nights after she was always waiting for him. Near a tree deep in the woods.

Sometimes they would talk. Other times kagome would bring items from her time to show him. Slowly the two developed. Until sesshoumaru realized one night as she waved a good bye and she hugged him. She smiled at him and said with a cheery voice. "Bye sesshoumaru I'll see you tomorrow!"

At that moment he wanted to smile back at her to return those affections. Then he asked himself. What affection? He just then noticed why he had talked to her so much that night they met. He understood why he always put up with her ranting. He, sesshoumaru, taiyoukai of the western lands, said to loathe all humans is in love with one. This was impossible. A youkai should not love. They were monsters they were meant to hate and kill!! A beast and a miko were meant to be together.

After many thoughts he found out that he wanted kagome in his arms forever. To hold her as she sleep to watch her chest go up in down and inhale her sweet scent. Yes he wanted all of that. But he couldn't have it. It was out of his reach. He was a taiyoukai dammit!!!

If kagome continued to do this to him he would get weaker and weaker until he wasn't nearly as strong as before. He didn't want that to happen. He wanted to be the most powerful demon. He didn't want to be an ass and did what his father did.

That means he would have to kill kagome.

Sesshoumaru twisted his head. No. He couldn't bear the thought of her dead. He didn't want to see a life less face staring at him. He wanted kagome alive. Then he would have to pretend that he hated her. That way he would drive her way and he would grow strong once more and not make the mistake his father did all those years ago.

A part of him screamed that this plan was stupid and that he shouldn't so this to himself. His beast shouted to kill. Sesshoumaru was a demon. A monster and a monster should act like a monster. So he would have to stick with his plan. Tomorrow night under a tree yes that would be nice.

Kagome walked through the endless forest of the night. She couldn't wait to meet up sesshoumaru again. They got really far ever since she healed him. He was opening up to her.

She smiled this was so nice. Sesshoumaru was kinder she was happier and everything was great.

When kagome arrived at her destination he wasn't there. Sesshoumaru wasn't waiting for her by the tree.

"Nani?" kagome said as she walked closer to the tree. A quick slash was made as kagome tried to dodge it. "Whose there!?" she asked as she opened her eyes to see. Sesshoumaru. No this couldn't be. Sesshoumaru was betraying her?? But she was so kind to him and... why? "Doshte? Sesshoumaru?"

"Did you think that I would ever be with a human for a long period of time?" he asked. Sesshoumaru smirked and slashed again with his claws.

Iie. It can't be! But she cared for him so much! Why did he betray her? Kagome took a step back and ran. Tears shined in her eyes now. 'Why sesshoumaru? I thought that you had change! I thought that...... you loved me like the way......... I did?'

Now she knows. She was in love with him. But that served no comfort as she ran back to Inuyasha. Her legs carried her as far as she can go. Why? Why? Did this even happen?

She shoved the bushes aside and met an angry Inuyasha. "Oi wench where the fuck have you been!? The brat has been crying for you and-"he was cut off by a hug from kagome.

"Inuyasha oh Inuyasha!!!" she sobbed.

Inuyasha was taken by surprise. Why was she crying?! He hated it when woman cry. "Why are you crying kagome?" he asked.

Kagome gave no answer but continued to sob.

Inuyasha growled. Sesshoumaru. He was getting closer and closer. Inuyasha gently put kagome down and pulled out the tetsiuga. "I know your there sesshoumaru! Where the fuck are you??!" he shouted.

He didn't need this so early in the morning. Sesshoumaru didn't appear to get closer. In fact he was pulling away from the group. What the fuck is going on here? What was with all this shit going around?

He looked over at kagome who was currently crying in mirokou's chest. Inuyasha grabbed her back from Mirokou and embraced her. He didn't want to see her cry. He wanted to see her smile and laugh. But first why was she crying? He had to fix the problem.

"Kagome doshteno?" he asked.

Sango ran to her best friend, followed by a monk and a fox kit.

Sesshoumaru watched kagome one last time as she ran to Inuyasha. She ran to Inuyasha. She was in Inuyasha's chest and not his own. For once he felt emotional pain from his heart. He started to walk away. This was the last time he would see kagome again. He couldn't be around her any more.

But as he walked he noticed something. At the moment that kagome hugged Inuyasha he wanted to rip her out of his arms and kill the damn half breed. But kagome would be happier with Inuyasha. At that moment he wasn't as selfish anymore. He put kagome feelings before his own and he felt pretty good. He cared more about kagome's feelings then his own happiness. So even if kagome's smiles and laugh's weren't for him, it didn't matter because as long as she is happy then so is he.

Another thing he noticed was that his father wasn't a fool. It was okay to love a human. Humans were less powerful and stupid but they shared one thing in common. They all had a heart that pumps blood into their bodies. It didn't matter if he was powerful or not. As long as he has these affections it was okay to stay with her.

But he was retarded enough to fuck it all up. Now he regrets it. He regrets having to betray kagome.

Now he wanted to cry. He lost everything today. Although he lost only one woman it felt as if he lost everything. Kagome wasn't a weakness. She was strength. If she was in trouble then he would fight twice as hard just to save her. He felt so foolish for letting her go.

But where every she is, and what ever she does he will always love her. Even if the love would hurt him, it was worth it.
