Blindness by Marulover
Adjustments
Sorry for the ones who haven't read the story yet. Somehow I accidently replaced chapter 1 with Chapter 7. Here is the first chapter!
Chapter 1
He woke up in the hospital and tried opening his eyes. He felt his eye lids open, but all he saw was darkness. Instead of his eyes showing him where he was, images flashed across his mind. Of a car crash, rain beating down on the windshield. Of a cliff getting closer and closer, than a blank.
Sesshomaru moved his head to try to recall those memories back, but pain ensued. What had happened? Was he permanently blind?
The door opened to his room and he heard someone approach the bed. The person grabbed his clipboard at the end of the bed, and it seemed almost deafening. He was a youkai and already had excellent hearing, but being blind seemed to magnify it even more.
The doctor walked up beside him and said, "You're awake, that's good."
"How long have I been here? Sesshomaru asked.
"For almost a week. You came into the ER and you were in bad shape. If you feel around, you'll find that you came out with many scratches and bruises. We bandaged it all up. The only major problem is your sight. As I'm sure you've found out you can't see and I'm not sure it will return."
"What do you mean?" he growled.
"Your sight might return, or you may never see again."
So many emotions overwhelmed him. What if he never got his sight back? What would his life be like? Could he survive without it? So much depended upon it. His job, his family and friends (those were numbered.)
His thoughts were interrupted when someone burst into his room.
"Oh, thank God you're awake, Sesshomaru!"
"Hello, dear brother. It's good to hear you," Sesshomaru said through gritted teeth.
"Oh, Sesshomaru, my dear! You're all right!" a woman came over to his bed and threw herself on him and kissed him forcefully.
Sesshomaru controlled himself from attacking the woman on him. She gave him air and some space and he recovered from the attack.
"Yes, I'm all right, Kagura. Don't worry."
"You scared me when InuYasha called and told me you'd been in an accident," she said. Her perfume overwhelmed him, had she always worn that much perfume?
"I'm okay. I'm still in pain and I can't see. My eye sight may never return."
"Oh, Sesshomaru!" She exclaimed coming to him and touching his face. Sesshomaru tried to turn his head so she'd let go of him. He didn't want to be touched right now.
"If you'll excuse us, would you mind letting me talk to Sesshomaru alone?" the doctor asked.
"Yes, of course, doctor, we'll be right outside," InuYasha said escorting a crying Kagura out into the hall.
"Thank you, doctor," Sesshomaru said gratefully.
"I thought you'd like some time to digest all of this. I also wanted to let you know that you can leave in two days. We just want to watch your vitals and make sure you're healing well. You may have a greater chance of your eye sight returning since you're a youkai. Until then, I'll recommend someone to you, who will help you adjust to you're new way of life," the doctor said.
"Thank you very much," Sesshomaru responded. He heard the man's footsteps lead to the end of the bed.
The clipboard was replace, "I'll tell your family you need your rest and to come back tomorrow."
"Thank you, again." He left leaving Sesshomaru in silence. Now he was going to have to adjust to all of this. He had always been in control and now he didn't have it. Someone would have to teach him to live and be different to survive. He felt his eye lids close and sleep overtook him.
Two days later, Sesshomaru was being pushed out of the hospital in a wheel chair by Kagura. He got his clothes back and it felt good to be dressed in his own clothes again.
He felt Kagura's hand on his shoulder and he laid his hand on top of hers' and he felt the large diamond ring on her left ring finger than he'd bought for her. They had been engaged for three months and were supposed to be married in a year.
She helped him into the car and she drove off to his apartment.
"The doctor told me that you called this vision place and someone is going to help you learn how to get back to your ordinary life."
"Yes, I thought it best--"
"Oh, Sesshomaru, I'm your fiancée, I should be doing that," she said as she ran her hand through his long white hair.
Sesshomaru turned his head towards the window so she couldn't touch him. It was still very strange not being able to see and trusting someone else to get him where he was supposed to be.
"Kagura, I appreciate your concern, but these people are professionals. They'll help me get back on my feet. I need to learn this for myself."
She didn't respond and he was glad about it. Surprisingly they drove the rest of the way to his apartment in silence.
They reached it and she helped him into his apartment. It felt good to be home the only difference this time was that he had to feel his way around so he wouldn't trip. Thankfully, he'd always been a clean person.
Sesshomaru sat on the couch and sighed. He heard Kagura walk past him and go down the hall to drop off his things. She came back and he felt her sit down next to him.
For a moment it felt nice then she spoke, "I'll stay the night, Sesshy."
He'd never liked that name, "No, I'd like to be by myself tonight."
She looked over at him, "But, how will you do anything? You can't see."
"I know that, but I want to be on my own," he said through gritted teeth.
"All right, I'll leave," she said getting up. She grabbed her purse and came back plastering herself to his lips. Before he could do anything she had left. He heard the door shut behind her. For some reason he didn't like how she kissed him anymore. He didn't like a lot of what she did anymore.
Sesshomaru went into the kitchen and felt around the smooth cold countertops. His hand ran across his answering machine. After quite a few tries of finding the right button, somehow he found it. The first message was from InuYasha saying he'd come over if needed. Sesshomaru rolled his eyes and continued through the kitchen trying to find someone to eat. The next was from his friend Miroku wondering where he'd been.
"In an accident and becoming blind," he mumbled in anger. He opened the door and something reeked! It looked like he wouldn't be eating anything tonight.
The last message came on and a sweet voice came over the machine. Sesshomaru's ears perked up.
"Mr. Taisho, my name is Kagome Higurashi. I've been assigned to your case. I shall be by tomorrow morning and we'll be starting our sessions. To prepare you, I'll be moving in for a time so I can be hands on, if you need help. Then, when I see that you're doing well on your own, I'll move on. So, I'll see you tomorrow," the message ended and Sesshomaru stared in the direction of the machine.
She'd be living here? He hadn't agreed to that! He calmed down and thought, 'It would probably be better if she did live here,' he could get through all of this quickly. He just hoped Kagura wouldn't be too angry.
