Protector
Deep russet eyes stared upon the closed doorway, with a blankness few could conjure. The old swing set creaked slightly under her weight, supporting poles sinking further into the mud left by a midnight rain. Short legs dug into the mud, propelling her small body backwards, then forwards again, in a slow motion, never letting the door of the shack out of her sight.
Dark hair blew forward due to a gust of wind, almost making the girl turn around. She could feel something watching her from the shed, though, and that was enough to make her not turn her back. Chubby little fists tightened around the rusted metal of the swing, the only one that hadn't been completely broken apart yet.
The old swing set was accompanied by a few animal-seats on springs that were still despite the now hard breeze. A turtle, and a fish- both with grins made maniacal by the chipped and peeling paint. A tube slide had been knocked over off to the side- in this setting, something that would put one in the mind of hiding monsters. However, nothing lurked there but a sickly-looking fox and her babies.
It was coming. Two beings raced towards her, only felt, not seen, one of dark, and one of... well... not so dark, both trying to reach the being of light first. Almost, they could reach her, almost...
The not-so-dark one reached her first, wrapping her in a warm embrace, something full of... what? She didn't know what it was. She turned trusting eyes up to the molten amberite looking down upon her, and could see past the stiffness. Her eyes closed and she rested her head upon the being's chest, trusting that he would protect her.
The dark one wailed in anguish, ripping through her protector, or attempting to, at least. She was released and swung backwards, and watched as the two before her engaged in a battle of wills, a battle of souls, and she just wanted it to stop...
"Kagome!" The girl paused, feet dragging her to a halt, and hopped off the swing, turning to look at her mother. Whatever had been there was still now, perhaps from fear of being noticed by any other than the child. "Kagome Higurashi, get over here this instant! What are you doing here?" Kagome seemed to break out of the trance she'd been in and ran for her mother, fear finally showing on rounded features.
As she reached the road and her mother's side, she reached her hand up, and it was snatched by her mother. "What are you doing out so late," the woman muttered, power-walking away from the place with it's aura of danger. "You could have been killed, or kidnapped! I had to leave Souta at home alone to come and find you!"
Kagome ran to keep up with her mother's quick pace, mumbling. "Gomen Nasai, Okaa-san..." She turned her head, still trotting forward, and waved her free hand at the two beings, who were now still, with meloncholy rather than fear. "Ja ne..."

Kai, well, that's that. Another one-shot, and I'm determined not to let this one end up like the other. -nodnod- This won't be continued unless I get the urge to continue it, as well as a plotline. Understood? So no... none of that whole berating me about how I can't just stop here like last time.
Gomen Nasai: I'm sorry
Okaa-san: Mother
Ja Ne: See you...
