She so sick of her life at times. Especially when her father would show up drunk saying that he still loved her. It drove her insane when he said things like because if he truly meant them then he would stop drinking and hurting her and her brother. It wasn't just because of his drinking that she had stopped loving him it was the fact that he would make promises to her brother about showing up and poor Souta would be waiting at the curb for hours.

That is what truly caused her to lose all affections for her father the fact that he couldn't see how his actions hurt Souta.

She had long ago given up on him and knew that she would get only lies and broken promises from someone she had adored since she could remember. That all changed when her parents began to fight they would ignore and pay attention to only Souta. He was the apple of her parents eye and sometimes she hated him because he had the all love that had been once hers until he had come along. She remembered that every night she would go to her parents room and say goodnight and that she loved them and they would answer that loved her as well.

Then he had been and they stopped saying they loved her and soon after he had started drinking and everything went to hell in a hand basket from that moment on. They began to ignore and she retreated into herself where they couldn't hurt her with their indifference. Yet it still hurt no matter how hard she tried it hurt like hell but she retreated into herself and into books, music and TV.

They only noticed her when she didn't answer them and this angered them but what could she do they had ignored since she was nine years and here she was 16 and they got angry at if she didn't answer them. She would answer but only one word and in a lifeless tone. They thought she was going through her rebellious period when in truth that was how she had been for the last seven years.

That showed her how much they truly cared for her and how much they paid attention to her. She could have been on drugs for all they cared but they didn't so she went through life with no real friends because if you had friends then they could hurt you and she didn't want to hurt anymore so she pushed all of her friends away. All but one left her, he was stubborn and refused to leave her when he could sense she was in pain. Why did he notice she was in pain and her parents hadn't noticed after years of suffering in silence he noticed and actually cared and nothing she did could make him go away.

Sesshoumaru was her true friend and this scared her because she didn't want him to be close to her, she was afraid that he would tire of her ways and leave her broken. Only this time it would hurt more than her parents desertion because she had fallen in love with he was her whole world and she was afraid that he would leave her, hell he was going to be going to University in Japan while she stayed in California. She didn't know why she was rambling today maybe it was because of the altercation with her father earlier that had caused her to remember things that were best left forgotten.

Flashback

You know that I still love my dear Kagome. You are one of the most important things in my life. Why must you be so cold Kagome. Why do you hate me is it because I drink every once in awhile. Your mother forgives and so does Souta. Why can't you forgive what makes you unable to forgive. It is because you hate me. You hate me for some imagined wrong that I have done to don't you. Well let me tell you missy that I have done nothing wrong to you do you understand.

End of Flashback

That's what he always said and it pissed her off a lot but it saddened her even more that her family never saw the pain she was in and if they did they blew it off as typical teenage problems. Which they totally weren't but did they care of course they didn't and this made her anger and hurt. So in an effort to ease the pain she goes to the kitchen and gets the sharpest knife in the drawer and then goes up to her room with it in her hands.

She puts it on her wrist and she slices it open then she goes to the other wrist and does the same. She lies down on her and waits for death to take her. As she lays there the he comes into her memories, her Sesshoumaru. He has been the only one to take the pain away too bad he wasn't here today because if he had been then on of this would have happened. Soon she begins to slip away into a world were pain doesn't exist anymore.

Something is pushing me to rush to Kagome's home. She needs me I know this because I can feel her getting weaker and weaker. What the hell has happened to make her so weak. He knows of how she pushed those closet way from her but he wouldn't allow her to the same to him and because of it he had fallen in love with her. He loved with every fiber of his being. It was this love that was pushing him to hurry and get to her as fast as he can and he does.

He barges into the house knowing that no one is there and that he will replace the door he just broke. He makes his way to her bedroom and he breaks the door down not wanting to waste time in seeing if she will answer the door. The sight that greets would have broken a lesser man but he is youkai and he rushes to the woman that he loves he notices the wounds that she has inflicted on herself and nearly breaks down but he knows that he can save her his one and only love. He grabs her wrists and licks them with his healing tongue.

The bleeding stops immediately but she is still in danger of dying so he gathers her into his arms and gently puts her into his car and makes his way to the hospital where she can get her blood volume up and live. She has to live if only so that he can kill her for scaring him like that. In all his life seeing her lying in a pool of her own blood was the only thing that nearly made him lose control but he saved her. The doctors told him that if he had gotten to her any later then she would already be dead. He was so thankful that he nearly kissed the doctor but instead asked if he could see and was allowed to go in to see her.

She was laying in the bed and glaring at the ceiling. She was so beautiful even all pale and hooked up to a machine that was helping restore her blood loss.

"Gave me quite a scare there." She swiftly looks down and sees him and she hangs her head in shame and guilt .

"Don't ever do that to me to you understand. Do not ever attempt something like this again. I don't think my heart can take anything similar to this. Why Kagome why would do something like this."

"I-I -I wanted peace. I wanted to be free of the pain that is in my daily life because of my parents. They don't see me and if they do they shrug off my quietness as being shy. They don't see why I am the way I am. If it hadn't been for you I would have long ago ended my life. Today I just had enough and decided to end it. Is it so wrong to want peace in my life. "

"No it isn't wrong to want the love of your parents or their understanding. What is wrong is the way you went about trying to obtain your peace. I need you in my life. I couldn't go on without you in the world. Think of that the next time you attempt something like this. Remember that I will always need you." With that said he leans down and kisses her deeply.

Two years later

Life was great for her now, all was great because she had finally gotten over the fact that her parents didn't love her anymore and she had moved on. She had moved on because of her Sesshoumaru. He had made all the difference in the person she was today. She was someone who loved and was loved in return.

Today was his birthday and she had a surprise for and boy what surprise it was at least for him it would at least she hoped that it would be. She was going to ask him to marry him. That would sure take him for a loop, he wouldn't know what hit him. It would be one of the few times that she could actually surprise him. So today she was going to a jewelry store to get him a ring. She had everything set up for a romantic dinner for two at home and then she was going to pop the question.

After finally finding the perfect ring she made her way and was crossing the street oblivious to the car that was coming at her at very fast speed. A split second before the car hit her she looks and stares in horror as the car hits. All she feels is pain and then nothing at all but before she looses consciousness his handsome face flashes into her mind and then nothing.

Sesshoumaru is just getting off of work and is looking forward to spending some time with Kagome. It has been a hectic week and the only time they spend together is when they sleep in each others arms at night. He too tired to do anything else but sleep. She is tired as well trying to go to school to be a writer and working at the bookstore. He is annoyed when his phone rings and knows that he must answer it or else it will drive batty not knowing who called.

"Mr. Takashi you are needed at Blue Silver Memorial this instant. A Miss Kagome Higurashi has been admitted in serious condition due to a car accident an hour or so ago."

Sesshoumaru rushes to the hospital and demands to know of her condition. The doctors explain that they have done all they can and that it is now up to her and God if she survives. They tell him that she is in a coma and on life support. They say that even if she survives the night she will never be able to walk again. Sesshoumaru just walks into the room and he is reminded of another time only this time she hooked up to even more machines and she is not glaring at the ceiling. It seems as if she is asleep but he knows that it isn't true that she is fighting for her life. She can't die not when he was going to ask her to marry him. He wills her to come back to him.

On a life support machine

For months she stayed like that unmoving hooked up to a half a dozen machines. Until one day her heart stopped and she passed away leaving him desolate and filled with pain.

Summer's day

As she passed away

Birds were singing

In the summer sky

And once again

A tear fell

From her lover's eye

When he buried his love Sesshoumaru noticed that birds were singing in the summer sky. He cried for the first time since his mother died he cried for the loss of the one that had melted his icy reserve the one that had won his heart when other women had tried and failed. The biggest tragedy of it was that he hadn't told her that he loved her they day she was in the accident. He was saving that for the later that night when he asked her to marry him but that would never happen and he would spend the rest of his life alone. He would never forget his Kagome and would mourn her until the end of his life be it by natural causes or by his own hand which ever came first. He would be buried by his love when his time came and hopefully he would see her again.
