When Tears Fall Once Again by Hara and Tenka

Prologue: Sundown Slaughter

In the quickly dimming sunlight, Sesshoumaru of the Western lands could make out the panting form of his half demon, half brother scum, Inu Yasha. Cold, golden eyes watched carefully as Sesshoumaru stood at a full attention, ready for the power that was to soon be unleashed. Very soon now...

Sesshoumaru's pointed ears perked up as heard Inu Yasha take a deep intake and begin to "run" towards him. A loud scream of anger escaped Inu Yasha's throat as Sesshoumaru smirked cockily. Inu Yasha seemed to sling Tetsusaiga over shoulder as he sprinted towards Sesshoumaru.

"You still can barely control the blade, scum." Sesshoumaru laughed coldly as he boldly stopped Tetsusaiga's slice with Tokijin. "Your mother's pathetic human blood has made you weak... almost weaker than your miko friend."

A small cold smile inched onto Sesshoumaru's face as Inu Yasha weakly attempted to break down his guard, and failed miserably. A slight angry pout was forming on Inu Yasha's brat like face as sweat glistened on his forehead. With one last weak attempt, Sesshoumaru hooked Tokijin under Tetsusaiga's hilt and swung it from Inu Yasha's hands as Inu merely gasped in surprise.

"Now, at this very dusk, I shall fulfill my promise and kill you." Sesshoumaru whispered coldly in the shocked half demon's ear before stepping back slowly. "You had better find a way to defend yourself, weakling."

Inu Yasha's eyes flashed around for a defense as Sesshoumaru smirked proudly. Today, I shall finally destroy you Inu Yasha.

Sesshoumaru stiffened slightly as a semi familiar scent began to drift around Inu Yasha. Sesshoumaru's golden eyes watched carefully as Inu Yasha let a shriek of fury rip from his throat, ringing through the dense forest.

With that scream of hate, Inu Yasha's body seemed to pulse in a slow rhythm, matching with the beat of Sesshoumaru's beating demon heart. His eyes grew as they became tainted with red. Golden pupils split open to reveal deep purple eyes that glared at Sesshoumaru. His nails grew as he cracked his knuckles threateningly at his eldest half brother.

Sesshoumaru could smell the hate radiating off Inu Yasha like a pungent stink that filled his body with anger and hatred. Inu Yasha glared hotly at him before zipping up into a tree, growling at Sesshoumaru.

Sesshoumaru smirked and waited for his one track minded brother to attempt to attack him in his false full demon form. It wasn't long before Inu Yasha began to fly towards Sesshoumaru.

Shifting his weight, Sesshoumaru jumped and prepared for his counter attack. But at the last second, his half demon, half brother twisted mid air and flew into Rin, who had been standing behind a nearby bush, almost completely hidden from view.

Sesshoumaru gasped suddenly and dropped his guard out of complete and total surprise. His foolish half brother had found his weakness in a little human girl. But Rin was no ordinary human child. She was his ward, the one person he had sworn to care for and protect. Her silent smile had touched his frozen heart as her caring soul had helped him through his weakest point. She was his daughter, his sister... the first human he ever cared about. And now, her fate was placed in the hands of an insane psycho transformed half demon.

"no..." Sesshoumaru's eyes softened with concern as Inu Yasha held Rin up by her throat.

"Sess...hou... maru... sama...." Rin managed to choke out as Inu Yasha put more pressure on her thin neck. "ple...ase..."

"Shut up, bitch!" Inu Yasha growled as he shook Rin's thin and fragile body harshly before slamming her into a nearby tree. Sesshoumaru, seeing his last chance to save his ward, rushed towards Inu Yasha, knocking him over.

Not caring to watch out for Inu Yasha, Sesshoumaru pulled Rin up slowly. Inspected her body, his heart filled with anger. Blood and bruises collected at her neck as more red liquid spilled from her head. Rin's beautiful eyes were glazed over in pain as her body gasped for it's last breathes of fresh air.

"Sess..... hou.....maru.......... sama......." Rin coughed out as blood seeped from the corners of her mouth. Her shaking hand gripped Sesshoumaru's large one as she sighed contently and whispered gently. "than...k..... you.... Good......... bye......." A gurgle came from her punctured throat as her eyes slid closed slowly. Squeezing Sesshoumaru's hand with the last of her strength, her tiny body took its last gulp of air before stilling.

The silence in the air was only fueling Sesshoumaru's anger and sadness as he watched his ward die before his very own eyes. The only sound was Inu Yasha's slow near unconscious breathing and the sobs of the human miko.

Standing up slowly, Sesshoumaru turned away from Inu Yasha and his group to face the direction of Rin's village, over 130 miles away. I should be the one thanking you, Rin. But that bastard brother of mine stole your innocent life before I could. I'll...

A single tear ran down Sesshoumaru's ivory cheek as his golden eyes hardened. Turning towards Inu Yasha, he growled with all the pain and hatred in the world. Racing towards Inu Yasha, he spoke quietly. "You destroyed the life of my ward, now I must follow suit and kill you."
