Coral Sensations
The red sunset burst into the sky as the sun descended behind the clouds creating a coral colour that splashed the sky. Kagome stared, her brown eyes reflecting the sight before her; she gave a soft sigh and spared a glance to her silent companion. His long silver hair blew silently in the breeze as his amber eyes stared off into the distance. Kagome brought a hand up and slowly tucked a black strand of hair behind her ear. She frowned slightly; her companions eyes seemed unfocused, his lips seemed tense. He was thinking. She suddenly had the urge to ask him what were his thoughts, but she already knew that answer. It was obvious.
Her hand tensed and scrunched in a ball, she raised it and looked at the broken tips of grass. The wind caught them and she watched as they danced in the wind. She once again turned to her companion. His nose twitched and his ears swivelled, she felt a small giggle about to erupt altering her state of melancholy to that of childish joy. She saw his eye turn to look at her. His stare was intense, a crimson colour spread out on her cheeks. She always blushed when he looked at her like that; luckily for her it was very rare occurrence.
"What!" he bit out; Kagome winced slightly at his tone.
"Nothing Inuyasha," Kagome softly replied. She turned her head back to the fading sky, she closed her eyes and took in the soft breeze. Slowly, ever so sneaky, she dropped her head on Inuyasha's shoulder. His shoulder tensed then relaxed, Kagome took a small amount of pride in knowing that Inuyasha was probably blushing like a fool at this very moment. A small smirk graced her ruby lips. She felt his hand rise and flop on her shoulder roughly. He made a small cough sound. Her smirk grew. It reminded her of those shows when a couple went to the movies and the guy would make that silly "cool" attempt to wrap his arm around his date.
Though all good moments are often invaded ruined by dark deep thoughts of truth and reality. The thought occurred to Kagome that this may be the last time her and Inuyasha would ever sit like this. Kagome's smirk faded, and sorrow filled her dark eyes. Naraku. That name was all what needed to be said to bring down any conversation. All the jewel shards were collected, the only people who had them were Kouga, Kohaku, Naraku, and herself. The final battle was approaching. Everyone knew this.
Even Sesshoumaru. He had come to them weeks ago; a truce had finally been made after a few "sits" and constant jealous ego brother comments. Which still were coming more and more. Since Sesshoumaru decided he would camp not to far from the village, just in case Naraku decided to attack. He of course insisted that "the" weak humans should train. A scowl formed on her lips.
"Kagome?"
"Huh?" Kagome looked up and realized that Inuyasha had been staring at her. She felt that familiar warmth spread across her cheeks. Inuyasha had a smirk on his lips. He must have been staring had her as her emotions raced across her face. Apparently he did that a lot when she was thinking.
She bowed her head in embarrassment, and flattened out her skirt.
"Inuyasha," Kagome said softly.
"Yeah?" Kagome's question hung on her lips, it was a question that not even Inuyasha knew the answer to.
"What do you think will happen, when we finally have the jewel?"
"I don't know Kagome, I suppose we'll find out."
Kagome sighed. Inuyasha suddenly tensed. Kagome looked up at him, he was looking at something. She turned her gaze to the direction he was looking. The serpent ghost glided elegantly through the trees.
"That's Kikyo, I have to talk with her about joining us," he swiftly rose he turned to Kagome ", do you think you can get back to the village safely?"
Kagome nodded slightly, ignoring the burning itch of jealous frustration in the back of her heart. She watched Inuyasha go after the flying serpent.
Kagome gazed one last time and the darkened sky, she lifted herself up and began walking back to camp. She wrapped her arms around herself as a shiver coursed down her back. She walked slowly and stopped suddenly and gazed up at the God Tree. Her hand lifted and stroked the scarred bark.
Something tingled her nerves and she halted her hand. Kagome turned around; there stood the demon lord. His clothes and hair drifted in an unknown wind. Kagome couldn't help but notice how beautiful he truly was.
"Miko, it is not safe for you to be roaming out here alone. Where is my foolish brother?"
"Why Lord Sesshoumaru, if didn't know any better I'd say you were concerned. And as for Inuyasha well..." She trailed off and lowered her head "He is a bit busy."
"Do not mistake my words for concern wench, I am only pointing out your stupidity for walking alone in the dark. And I'm assuming that my brother is off with his dead bitch no less. I thought I smelled her rotten corpse."
Kagome's head remained bent. As the a silence settled between them. It unnerved Sesshoumaru highly; usually this wench never stopped talking. Whether it was with his ward or one of her many companions.
"Come girl," Sesshoumaru turned and started walking to the village, " I will escort you back to your village."
He could hear her silent steps behind him. His eyes drifted to the sky as he felt her walk beside him. Sesshoumaru took deep sniff, and felt her vanilla scent waft in his nose. It was rare to find an actual human who bathed.
