You Can Confide In Me... by EvanescentLight
Chapter One-Tell Me
She didn't bother to move when a rustle broke the silence in the clearing. He was here again, just like always. Every night was the same for the two of them. They'd meet in the middle of the night, go for a walk, converse, and just bask in the other's presence. She didn't know when it started, but she was glad it did. It gave her something to do when she wasn't pining for Inuyasha, and it gave him break from his princely duties. "Kagome," He started. "Inuyasha will worry for you one day." She smiled softly.
"When did you start to care, Sesshomaru-sama?" A smirk broke out on his pale lips. The lips that hid the sharp fangs that could tear through your throat and kill you in an instant. "I started 'caring', as you call it, when you became my responsibility." There was silence then, just for a few moments. Mirth filled her voice as she spoke. "I didn't realize that I had become such a burden to you as of late..." She could hear the silent laughter in his reply. "I wasn't aware of it much either, until you twisted your ankle looking at an herb." Kagome laughed softly and lay down in the grassy field. The blades of grass tickled her palms as she lay them flat on the ground to steady herself. Her miko garb fanned out in patches of dirt, smudging and soiling them. Sesshomaru sat next to her, studying her calm features. He knew she was more than capable of taking care of herself now, but it made his pride swell to think that he could do something to protect the strong miko. Why, he didn't know.
"Tell me." She didn't look at him as she asked her question. "Tell you what?" He sat against a large boulder, his arm draped over his raised knee. "Tell me about your home. Your family. Everything you had before this." That's right. Everything she had before the defeat of Naraku. She opened her mouth to speak, but quickly closed it as she saw a shooting star pass right in front of the full moon that was gracing the sky. "Make a wish, Sesshomaru." She closed her eyes and made a wish. "What did you wish for?" Sesshomaru was curious as to what she would wish for, because there were so many things anyone could ask for. Kagome sat up, brushing away some dirt the palms of her hands. "Since I know it's not going to come true, I may as well tell you. I wished that I could find love." Kagome smiled wistfully and sighed. "I wished to find something or someone to cure my lonliness." His statement startled her and she looked over to him and saw him looking at the stars. She smiled wider as she saw a slight pink-ish tint on his face. "You wished to know about me before we joined together to defeat Naraku. I will tell you now." She took a deep breath and started to tell her story, her eyes locked with his, and the stars twinkling in the sky above them.

"I was born in the year 1982, which is about five hundred and fifteen years in the future. I was born with the Shikon no Tama in my body because Kikyo had it burned with her body, and I am her re-incarnation. I have a little brother named Souta, a mother, and a grandfather. All of whom I love very much. My father was in an accident when I was young, so me, my mother, and Souta went to go live with the grandfather I mentioned." She took a breath and continued to speak. "On the day of my fifteenth birthday, I was going to school, and Souta told me that our cat Buyo had just run into the well house. I forgot to mention that we live in a shrine that is located by the Goshinboku...the well inside the well house is the well that is in a clearing near Inuyasha's Forest...anyways, there were some ancient youkai bones in the well, and the Shikon inside of me was powerful enough to bring those bones back to life into the demon it was. The demon pulled me into the well, and I came into this time. It turns out that the demon was Mistress Centipede, who chased me into this village. Kaede, the village's miko, thought I was a demon, and tried to exorcise me." Kagome stopped when she heard a muffled noise. "Hm...mhmm...hehehehe...." Was he...laughing? She glared at Sesshomaru then continued on with her story.
"After I convinced her that I was no demon, Mistress Centipede tracked me down and tried to get the jewel from me. She landed up cutting the jewel from my body and swallowing it. She became much stronger, and I was forced to run, or she'd eat me. I ran into Inuyasha, who at the time, was pinned to the Goshinboku. He thought I was Kikyo, the miko who pinned him to the tree, and refused to help me. But when found out that Mistress Centipede had the Shikon, he was snapping at me to let him go. I broke the arrow that sealed him and he killed Mistress Centipede. We secured the jewel, and it was safe for a while. Then, the next day, some soldiers came and kidnapped me. They demanded that I hand over the jewel, but I refused. The leader of the gang was possesed by a karasu youkai who made it's nest in the heart of it's victims. It got a hold of the jewel, and also swallowed it. During a turn of events, I shattered the jewel but saved a child who was going to drown." Kagome breathed deeply and yawned. She flushed and lowered her head, embarrassed
"It's early in the morning now, Kagome. You should get some rest. You can tell me the rest of the story later tonight." Kagome nodded sleepily and stood up, brushing the dirt from her garb. Sesshomaru had already left, without any trace of him what-so-ever. Kagome trodded off to the camp, where Shippo was cuddled up in her blanket, Inuyasha was high up in the branches of a tree, and Sango and Miroku were laying near the warm fire, keeping close to each other. Kagome watched the flames dying in the fire and she tossed some wood into it and tended to the flames for a few minutes before sitting against a tree trunk. She was tired, but she couldn't get her eyes to stay closed for longer than a minute. Her mind kept wandering back to a silver haired Inu Tai-Youkai. Who was he to her? What was he to her? What was she to him? She growled in frustration and started to make breakfast for her small group of friends. She walked to a river and filled her large water canteen. As she walked back to camp, she couldn't help but notice a small wounded bird. She picked it up carefully, shifting the water canteen to her shoulder. "Aw...poor little guy...I'll make you better..." she cooed. The little bird chirped weakly and Kagome smiled softly at it. She used her trained miko powers to heal it, and she cradled it in her arms. It would be a while before the little guy would be able to regain all of his strength.

Sesshomaru lay in his bed and sighed for what seemed to be the millionth time since he got home. The miko and her group were a mystery...he had done some research on them, and it turned out that they were mercenaries now. 'Trained fighters for hire, hm?' Sesshomaru smirked. A houshi, taijiya, hanyou, kitsune, and miko traveling together and warding off demons...that was a very interesting combination...very interesting indeed...he sat up and brushed his silver strands behind his shoulders. He was seriously thinking of cutting it soon. It was getting to be a bother as of late. Sesshomaruheard the pitter patter of footsteps and groaned. It was Jaken. "Sesshomaru-sama, I have a message for you delivered by a messenger of the Southern Kingdom." His voice was more annoying than usual somehow..."Jaken, leave it in my study. I'll read it later." Jaken ran off with his Staff of Heads, letter in hand. "Rin! You insolent child! Come back here!" Sesshomaru growled and stood. He picked out his usual white hakama and haori with the red lotus design on it, and dressed. It was time for all the noise to stop. Now.
"Good morning, Sesshomaru-sama!" Rin smiled up at her lord and folded her hands behind her back, rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet. " Lord Sesshomaru, will we be traveling today?" Jaken had to open his mouth. Again. Like usual. Sesshomaru looked at his retainer with his emotionless face. "Er...Lord Sesshomaru, will we be traveling today?" "Perhaps, Rin. Perhaps." Rin smiled at him again and bowed to him before walking off to the castle gardens. "Jaken, watch her. I'm going out. I'll be back shortly." Jaken sputtered as he was forced to watch Rin yet again. He bowed to Sesshomaru before he left, and walked to the castle gardens. Upon opening the doors, he was greeted with a garland of flowers placed upon his head, and a boquet of flowers shoved into his hands. "Rin! Get these flowers off of me!" Rin giggled and shook her head. "Jaken-sama, how are we to play dress-up if you do not play along?" Jaken groaned. He desperately hoped that Sesshomaru would come back very, very, very soon...
