‘Where in the world was Inuyasha? He should’ve been here by now.’ Kagome laid there in her bed in Sesshoumaru’s, castle. It had already been several months since she had gone with the Lord of the Western Lands, Inuyasha’s older half-brother, to get away from the half-demon. During her stay here, she was well treated. Sesshoumaru, the demon whom she thought ruthless and murderous, was not at all what she thought him to be. Although he seemed cold, uncaring and was a jerk, that wasn’t really the case. Sesshoumaru had treated her like a guest, giving her exquisite kimonos to wear, and food to eat. Kagome even got the privilege to wander around the castle freely with a few restricted rooms. She somehow felt safer with Sesshoumaru compared to Inuyasha.

~ I close my eyes

And even when I’m sleeping,

I’m all right cause you are in my life. ~

The whole night, Kagome wasn’t able to sleep. Whenever she would close her eyes, there he was. Whenever she was playing with Rin or walking around the castle, Sesshoumaru somehow managed to pop up in her mind unexpectedly. Whenever she would make direct eye contact with him, butterflies would flutter in her stomach much like the times when Inuyasha wasn’t looking at her with a glare, only, this was stronger.

‘ Inuyasha…’ Kagome had not seen Inuyasha or any of her other companions since then…

(Flashback)

Kagome had awoken in the middle of the night to find Inuyasha missing. Curious on where he could be at such a late hour, she got up from her place and went away from Kaede’s hut to look for him. She was just about to pass the God-tree when she caught sight of something. It was Inuyasha and Kikyou.

She hid herself behind a bush and saw them locked in an embrace and staring lovingly at each other’s eyes. Kagome felt her heart break as she witnessed them kiss and ran away from them unnoticed, not realizing that she had gone the opposite way of where the Bone-Eater’s well was located.

‘Why? Why, Inuyasha? After I gave you my heart, how could you do this to me?’ Kagome ran and ran until her legs were aching with pain, but didn’t stop, only slowing down to a walk. Hot tears trailed down her cheeks, blinding her vision. Her poor heart pleaded for the pain to be taken away. She didn’t care how, just as long as she didn’t need to suffer anymore because of Inuyasha.

‘I loved you, Inuyasha. How could you?’ Very suddenly, she walked into something very solid. “ Oh great, just perfect! Now I’m bumping into trees!”

“ I, Sesshoumaru, am no tree.” A cold voice came. “ Where is my idiot half-brother?” Sesshoumaru demanded.

Kagome looked up at him with tears shining in her eyes, “ He’s with that walking corpse, Kikyou.”

“ You loved him, did you not?” he began. “ Love is only for the weak. It only leads to the destruction of one’s being.”

Kagome laughed. What else would she expect from Inuyasha’s half-brother?

“ What are you laughing about, wench?”

“ Love, gives us strength, Sesshoumaru, but I don’t think that a person with a heart as cold as yours could understand.” She said.

Like lightning, he had her pinned to a tree with a hand around her neck. “ I do not believe that you know who you are talking to. You are best to know your place, wench.”

Kagome merely placed her small hand on his. “ Kill me, please.”

He was slightly taken aback by her statement. Humans would usually beg for their lives just at the mere sight of him but this, this wench, as fragile and weak as she was, was asking him to take her life. ‘Is she not afraid of death?’ He let her go and stared as she slid down the trunk of the tree.

He took back his earlier thought about her being weak, recalling all the times she had helped his half-brother to defeat him. She was anything but weak. She had proven herself several times before especially with the near destruction of Naraku.

She lifted her head and looked into his golden eyes. “ Why didn’t you kill me?!”

“I never kill those who earn my respect.” He said as he began walking away.

‘What? I earned his respect?’ Kagome was disturbed out of her thoughts when Sesshoumaru began to speak once more.

“ Come wench, you will go with me to my castle.” And with that, he started to leave as Kagome followed soundlessly.

(End Flashback)

The demon lord was much kinder, sort of, to her than she expected. He even trained her to become a better fighter, accompanied her on some small shard, and also allowed her to visit her family; with the one condition that he comes along. Sure, he had to be near her all the time but at least her family liked him even though he’s a full-demon and is Inuyasha’s older half-brother. But, she did have a little bit of trouble getting her little brother, Souta, away from Sesshoumaru’s fluffy tail.

(Flashback)

“ Hold the arrow closer to your jaw. It will help your aim.” Sesshoumaru said, watching Kagome practice her archery for quite some time now.

Kagome did as she was told and let the arrow fly. It hit dead center.

“ Thank you, Fluffy-chan! It really worked!” Kagome said cheerfully.

‘ Fluffy-CHAN??!!’ “ You will address me properly, wench.” He said, suddenly next to her.

Kagome didn’t even flinch but stared at him in the eyes and frowned slightly. “ My name is Kagome. Ka-Go-Me. Not wench, woman, or girl. If you keep calling me names, then I’ll give you a nickname of my own.”

Sesshoumaru turned around and headed for the dojo. “ Very well, Kagome. Now get your sword. It is time for practice.

~*~*~*~

“ Sesshoumaru!! It has three shards in its chest and one on his forehead!” Kagome pointed at the attacking bear demon.

Sesshoumaru carefully aimed for it’s head, knowing that his poison would get on its eyes, giving him more time to get the shards. With the demon distracted with the pain in its eyes, Sesshoumaru used his youki whip to finish him off, managing to get the shards before he melted the thing with his dokkasou.

Kagome walked over to him and he handed her the shards. He watched as she purified them with just a touch of her hand.

“ Wow. We’ve got about half the jewel already. I’m so grateful to you. Thanks for helping me, Sesshoumaru-sama.”

“ I said that you had my word and I, Sesshoumaru, do not break my promises.” He said as he turned and walked back to the trail that they were following.

~*~*~*~

“ I’ll be right back, okay?” I just need to get some stuff and take a shower.” Kagome headed upstairs, leaving Sesshoumaru with her mother, brother, and grandfather.

On their last few visits, the old man tried putting some very familiar prayer beads around his neck but Kagome had taken them all and hid them somewhere safe inside the house.

Her mother was all right, she was very well mannered and was tolerable, but her brother was the exact opposite. He was annoying and spoke too much about nonsense. He constantly attached himself to the demon lord, who tried to keep his annoyance toward the boy covered for Kagome would kill him if anything happened to her brother.

Kagome walked down the stairs expecting to find Sesshoumaru looking around or sitting down, calmly sipping tea. What she didn’t expect was seeing Souta attached to the taiyoukai’s furry appendage.

Sesshoumaru gave Kagome a look that said ‘ Get your brother away from me or I will kill him’.

“ Souta!” Kagome dropped her bag and dashed over to Sesshoumaru, trying to pry her brother’s death grip from Sesshoumaru’s tail.

“ Souta! Let go!” Kagome said but when that didn’t work, she whispered something in his ear. He immediately let go and blushed deeply before going upstairs.

Sesshoumaru rewrapped his tail in his usual position and said, “ …Thank you. What were you saying about a girl?”

Kagome picked up her bag and smiled, “ I told him that if he didn’t give, I’d tell the girl he likes that he thinks she’s ugly…” Kagome then notice something in the taiyoukai’s hands. It was her old album full of her old picture. She tried to snatch it from him but he held it high enough so that she couldn’t reach it.

“ Hey!!!!! Give me that back!!!” she said, jumping, attempting to get her pictures.

The demon lord smirked, “ I notice you mother looking at this before she went to the kitchen. I was just curious as to what was in it for she was smiling as she looked upon it.”

Kagome was just about t give up when she saw his tail and smirked inwardly. She reached up and ran her hand through its soft fur. Sesshoumaru slowly closed his eyes and started … purring? ‘ I didn’t know dogs could purr…’ His hand slowly went in to her reach and she quickly snatched it away before he could open his eyes.

With a deep crimson blush to her cheeks, Kagome stuffed it into her back and headed towards to door. “ Mama!!! We’re leaving!!!!”

She walked out the door and walked toward the well with Sesshoumaru following close behind.

(End Flashback)

But, still something was bugging her. A few nights ago, she had a strange dream. Both she and Sesshoumaru were together under the stars, were moving closer and closer… then it end right there. She woke up with her cheeks really hot, with a deep crimson tint to them.

Still unable to get to sleep, Kagome got up and went out of her room, heading towards the gardens. When she got there, the garden still didn’t cease to amaze her with its beauty. Wrapping her kimono around her, she walked towards the cherry blossom tree in the center of the garden.

“ What are you doing up at this time of night?” A familiar voice sounded from behind her.

Kagome jumped when she heard that and twirled around to see Sesshoumaru looking at her with his beautiful golden eyes.

“ I couldn’t get to sleep.” She said.

“ You still shouldn’t be out here. There are demons who would not hesitate in killing a human like you.” He said as he stepped closer to her.

“ But isn’t this your castle? You would sense right away that there was an attacker and would have done away with it by now.” She shot back.

Kagome turned her back to Sesshoumaru and looked up at the night sky then sighed.

“ Are you thinking about him again?” Sesshoumaru asked curiously as he stepped next to her.

“ No. I was just thinking about a strange dream I had.” She said, turning her head to look at him.

He raised a silken eyebrow in a silent question.

“ I had a dream about me and…” she stopped herself as she realized who she was talking to. “ Wait a minute. Why should I tell you? It’s none of your business.”

Once again, like many times before, her breath got caught in her throat when she gave him her full attention. ‘He’s so handso… No!! Get your head out of the gutter Kagome!’

Kagome turned away as she tried to hide her furiously blushing cheeks, but Sesshoumaru stopped her, gently cupping he chin with his hand, locking their eyes together.

‘What is he doing?! I…is he going to kill me?’ She began to feel very nervous when Sesshoumaru just stared at her with an unintelligible emotion in his eye, but all thoughts flew out of her mind when he kissed her.

He had never felt this was about anyone before. He couldn’t explain it, but whenever she was around him, he felt happy. Whenever they were apart, he wanted to be with her, even though she was only in the other room. Whenever she would cry or think about his half-brother, he would feel a pang of jealousy and feel a sudden urge to track Inuyasha down and rip him to shreds.

When he had brought her to his castle, he was planning on trading her for the Tetsusaiga but as time progressed, he found that he wouldn’t be able to let her go, so he resorted to plan B. A few nights ago, he crept into her room and was going to kill her but he didn’t go through with it. He would… he couldn’t kill her, his Kagome.

‘Omigod!! He’s kissing me!!! He’s a good kisser. Wait! I’ve never been kissed before!’ Kagome was utterly shocked at Sesshoumaru’s action but relaxed into his kissed.

Sesshoumaru broke off the kiss and looked into her blue-gray eyes. “ Kagome, I… Are you still… in love with him?”

“What if I do? What if I don’t?” Kagome asked. ‘It’s a cover-up. He’s hiding something.’

“ Answer my question,” he demanded.

“ Why should I?” she countered. “ It’s not like you even care.”

“ I do.”

Kagome was again, in utter shock. The demon lord, caring about what a worthless human would say?

“ I did love him,” she said.

He frowned slightly at her answer turned to leave, but Kagome stopped him. “ Wait!”

“ What?”

“ I said that I did love him.” Kagome explained.

“ So you did, meaning…”

“ I don’t love him anymore. I used to love him, but he chose another. I still love him though, as a friend.” She said, looking down.

‘Maybe she’s lying, no, her scent doesn’t have anything to indicate that she’s lying’ Sesshoumaru turned back to Kagome, looking her in the eyes. “ But, do you…”

Kagome waited patiently for him to finish. She knew he had something to say so she didn’t push it.

“ Do you… love me?” he said, his voice starting to waver in nervousness. He held her close to him, not wanting to let go.

Is it possible, that I’ve fallen in love in such a short time? Kagome didn’t want to get hurt again. She didn’t to feel that pain again. “ Do you love me?” she asked.

Sesshoumaru pulled away a little, and looked at her. “ I do. But how about you?”

Kagome’s mind flooded with possible answers. ‘Yes. No. Uh…maybe.’ I don’t know. But before she could register what she was going to say, she answered his question. “ Yes.”

“ You do?”

Kagome smiled and encircled his neck with her arms. “ Yes, Sesshoumaru-sama, I do.” She pulled him down into a kiss and he wrapped his arms around her waist as he pulled her closer to him, deepening the kiss.

This was the position that Inuyasha found them in.

Inuyasha had finally made it to the castle. But instead of Kagome asking him to save her, he found her and his half-brother kissing.

“ Sesshoumaru!”

Kagome and Sesshoumaru broke off and saw Inuyasha on the other side of the garden. Apparently, Inuyasha had managed to get through the castle’s guards.

“ Inuyasha, what are you doing here?” Kagome demanded.

Inuyasha didn’t take his eyes off Sesshoumaru; “ I’m here to save you from this bastard.”

(A/N: Couldn’t find appropriate word so if it offends you, I’m sorry!!)

Sesshoumaru placed Kagome out of harms way and flexed his claws dangerously while Inuyasha brought out the Tetsusaiga. Inuyasha lunged towards Sesshoumaru with the fully transformed and when Sesshoumaru was about to strike, Inuyasha was sent to the ground by Kagome’s ‘sit’.

‘Amusing, she has control over the mutt using a single word.’ Sesshoumaru smirked at the fallen hanyou and walked towards Kagome.

“ Come back here!” Inuyasha got up and swung at Sesshoumaru but was again sent face-first to the ground below with a ‘sit’ before he could complete his attack.

“ Inuyasha! Leave him alone!” Kagome scolded.

Inuyasha got up and dusted himself off but didn’t attack this time. No doubt, Kagome would use her magic word again.

“ But, Kagome! Don’t you remember all the times he tried to kill us?!” Why was Kagome sticking up for his brother? ‘Sesshoumaru must’ve done something to you. I won’t lose you!’

“ That was the past Inuyasha! Forget about it and move on!” she shot back.

“ But Kagome! He’ll just hurt you!”

“ What? Like you did to me so many times before?” Inuyasha was shocked. “ When I was with you, I wasn’t sure that you even saw me as being Kagome. You always saw me as Kikyo’s reincarnation and as a shard detector. Sesshoumaru sees me as me and he would never try to hurt me.”

“ Kagome, I’m… sorry. I never realized that I hurt you that much.” Inuyasha turned around to leave.

“ I’ve already forgiven you, but Kikyo’s dead, and that corpse is nothing more than a puppet, made by Urasue. She isn’t the real Kikyo, Inuyasha.” Kagome said.

Inuyasha smiled then turned back. “ Thanks for everything Kagome.” Everything was clear now. He had been such a fool and now he had lost the one he loved to his brother, no less. “ See ya around.”

“ Inuyasha, we’ll still be friends okay?”

Inuyasha nodded. “ Hey Sesshoumaru! If you hurt her I’ll kill you.” With that, he left.

A month later, they had defeated Naraku once and for all, but Kikyo was destroyed along with him. Naraku had apparently dragged Kikyo with him during the final blow given by Kagome. Inuyasha had learned to move on with his life and was now living with Sesshoumaru and Kagome, along with Shippou. Kagome had forced the two brothers to make up and had taken in Shippou. Sango and Miroku were happily living in Kaede’s village, occasionally visiting Kagome. Kohaku, Sango’s little brother, was revived by the Tenseiga and was also living with Sango and Miroku. Kagome had used the Shikon no Tama to wish her into a demon but since she has the abilities of a miko, she’ll be able to hide it efficiently. Midoriko, the legendary priestess who made the Shikon, asked Kagome what more she wanted and she wished that she and all her friends of the Sengoku Jidai could travel back and forth. Midoriko granted her wish, breaking the Shikon into Shards that only contained the power to pass through the well and the power to disguise a youkai into a human form.

(At the Higurashi Shrine)

“ So, umm, we’re going to get married, well, sort of.” Kagome had been nervous on the way back to the well. She was afraid her mother wouldn’t be able to handle the news.

“ Don’t worry Kagome, I won’t hold you back. I want you to follow your heart. That’s what your father would’ve said.” Ms. Higurashi assured.

Kagome launched herself at her mother in tears of joy, hugging her tightly but not too tight of course. “ Thank you mom, for everything.”

“ But what about Inuyasha?” Her mother asked. Her daughter was getting married to Inuyasha’s older half-brother after all.

“ Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru don’t fight anymore. They’ve already made up their differences though they still have arguments.” Kagome reassured her mom.

Kagome and her mom went back down stairs where they found Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha playing against each other on Souta’s play station. Apparently, Souta had taught both of them how to play, seeing as they were shouting at each other.

Souta was behind them giving advice and telling them what to do during what and this.

“ Inuyasha! Press square!” he told Inuyasha. “ Sesshoumaru! Block! Block!” he told Sesshoumaru.

“ I’m winning!” Inuyasha shouted.

“ No you’re not.” Sesshoumaru retorted.

“ Yes, I am.”

“ No, you’re not.”

“Yes, I am.”

“ No, you’re not.”

“ Yes, I am.”

“ Yes, you are.”

“ No, I’m not, so there!”

The television screen started to blink ‘Player 1: Loser’. “ Well, Inuyasha, you did say you weren’t winning.” Souta sweat dropped.

“ Umm…mom?” Kagome began, “ just tell my school that I moved to the country with some relatives for my health, okay.” Kagome said sweat dropping.

“ Umm… Okay dear.” Her mom said also sweat dropping.

(Several Years Later)

“ Mama! Is the cake ready?” A 16-year-old Rin asked.

“ It’s almost done.” Kagome said, looking into the oven.

They had gone into the future with everyone and planned a surprised birthday for Sesshoumaru. On Rin’s birthday, they had found a way to turn her into a demon and so she could live a long life too so now, Kagome and everyone else were going to try to give Sesshoumaru a party for a change. The children, grandpa, and Inuyasha had agreed to get Sesshoumaru out of the house for two hours and Sango, Miroku, and Shippou was to help decorate while Kagome, her mother, and Rin worked on the food.

“ Jaken! Are they here yet?!” Kagome called.

“ Not yet Lady Kagome!” The toad had eventually learned to respect Kagome since she and Rin were now demons. “ Wait! They’re coming!”

“ Okay, everyone hide!” Sango said. “ Miroku, turn off the light.”

~ grope, grope ~

“ Miroku!!” Sango yelled.

~ BONK! ~

“ Okay, good. I’ve already used my magic to clear the room of any scents. Now, be quiet.” Kagome said.

(With Sesshoumaru)

“ Come on. Let’s get inside.” Inuyasha said as he held the door open for the kids. “ Go ahead bro.”

Sesshoumaru walked in to find that the lights were of and that no one was home. Inuyasha shut the door behind him and turned on the light.

“ SURPRISE!”

Everyone jumped out of their hiding places, and smiled at Sesshoumaru. Kagome walked over to him and planted a chaste kiss to his lips. “ Happy Birthday.”

“ How did you know?” he asked curiously.

“ Rin told me. Now come on, everyone’s waiting.”

After the party, Kagome and Sesshoumaru went out of the house and headed for the old God-tree.

“ Isn’t the night so beautiful?” Kagome said as she looked up at the stars.

“ Yes, just like you.” Sesshoumaru said as he pulled her into a kiss under the stars.

The two eventually broke the kiss when the heard a giggle from behind. “ Ummm… Excuse me for interrupting but, papa, Uncle Inu just broke your high score thing in Uncle Souta’s game.” A giggling Rin said.

Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow, “ Oh, did he? I will see to that.” He smiled at Kagome and headed back for the house. After a moment Kagome and Rin returned to the house to find Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru playing again.

“ I’m winning!” Inuyasha shouted.

“ No, you’re not.”

“ Yes, I am.”

“ No you’re not.”

“Yes, I am.”

“ No, you’re not.”

“ Yes, I am.”

“ No, you’re not.”

“ Yes, I am.”

“ Yes, you are.”

“ No, I’m not, so there!”

The TV screen, once again, flashed ‘ Player 1: Loser’. Kagome sighed. What a strange, yet special life she has. But, she wouldn’t trade it for anything else, for she chose her own life and it’s with the man that she loves and who loves her back.

The Song, ‘If You Believe’ Belongs to Rachael Lampa from the A Walk to Remember Soundtrack. This is one of my first fanfictions so if it’s not to your liking, hate me. And I’m sorry to all those Inu/Kago fans but I prefer the Sesshou/Kago pairings cause Inuyasha has hurt Kagome’s heart too many times. I know that last part’s kinda corny but hey, I was bored.
