A Different Side of Him
Chapter 1: Saved
Kagome felt as if she had been running for hours. Her legs threatened to buckle and her lungs were on fire. It was just her luck that kept her from tripping over a root and falling face first to the ground.
Kagome looked back and saw the fat rat youkai still hot on her tail. She closed her eyes and tried to will her legs to run faster but to no avail. That is when her luck ran out.
Kagome's foot got caught on a root and she fell face first on the ground. She tried to get back on her feet to start running again but her knees gave out of exhaustion and she was back on the ground. Kagome cringed with fear as she waited for the indefinite pain of death.
But nothing happened!
Kagome, surprised, lifted her head enough so she could peek over her shoulder. What she saw surprised her even more. She saw the youkai cut in half still twitching and a man with his back towards her. The only thing she saw was his white hair before she was enveloped in darkness.
Sesshoumaru turned, to find the girl he saved unconscious on the ground which was covered with autumn coloured leaves. He walked the distance between the girl and him, and examined her injuries.
The only big wound he saw on her backside, was the large gash made by the claws of the rat youkai on her right leg. It ran from the middle of her thigh, past where her knee bent and ending in the middle of her leg muscle.
'Interesting, I didn't think it was possible for a weak ningen to go so far with such a large wound and loss of blood.'
Sesshoumaru bent down and flipped the girl over. To anyone else, the front of the girls body would have looked a lot worse than the back, but Sesshoumaru knew better then to just go by sight alone.
The girl had many small cuts and bruises on her legs, and her left knee was bleeding. Her skirt was torn in two places, one near the bottom rim of the left leg and the other just under the top rim of her right side.
Her arms also had many small cuts on them, all of which were steadily dripping red. Her green collar lay in tatters around her neck and her sleeves were completely gone. There were four major rips in her shirt. Two were at her sides, one above her left breast and the last below her right breast. All of which were red with blood around the edges of the torn shirt.
Sesshoumaru's eyes traveled to her face and blinked. ' I recognize this girl. She is always with that half- breed, Inuyasha, but right now I can't even smell him on her.'
He took a light sniff to confirm his thought, but instead smelt death radiating of her in waves.
Sesshoumaru placed his right hand on the hilt of Tenseiga and saw four of hell's creatures preparing to take the girl to the afterworld. Sesshoumaru swung the Tenseiga and sliced the imps in half before he knew what he was doing.
He watched as the wounds began to heal themselves, but could do nothing about the clothes. ' If I thought she was indecently dressed the first time I saw her, it's nothing compared to right now.... Although she does have --' he cut off that thought and his face became even more indifferent -- if that's even possible. ' What was I, Sesshoumaru, Taiyoukai of the West, about to think. She is a ningen, a miko no less, with the abilities to purify any youkai threatening her life. But...there is something strange about this ,' he looked her up and down in disgust at her indecency, but thought, 'woman- child. I sense there is something more to her, something more powerful than her miko abilities. I hate to admit it, but, for once this Sesshoumaru is in the dark.' Sesshoumaru took in a deep breath, frowned and exhaled in disbelief. Fresh blood.... 'But I just used Tenseiga. How is that possible?' He thought to himself.
Sesshoumaru flipped the girl on her stomach again and examined the large wound on her right leg. It was still there. 'This wound still remains whereas all the others are healed. Why?' he questioned himself.
With a sigh, Sesshoumaru took off one of the two obi he around his waist and wrapped it around the wounded girl's leg. 'This will have to do for now,' he thought and frowned when he turned his gaze to rest on the Tenseiga, 'and also look into why the Tenseiga did not work on this ningen completely.'
Sesshoumaru got to his feet gracefully and took a quick glance around to see if the girl had dropped anything on the ground. While he was turning, something lustrous caught his keen eye a few feet away from the unconscious girl. He walked towards it, picked it up and twirled it around his elegant fingers examining it.
The thing that Sesshoumaru had picked up was long, had blue colouring with silver flecks spiraling around its body. The tip on one end was silver with a small opening at the base. The other end was also silver but had another silver object protruding from it. This was one third the length of the whole thing.
The only thing that seemed to catch his amber eyes, was a small silver plaque. The plaque had such intricate vines carved into it that Sesshoumaru could see every hair fine detail of the vines. There was something else carved into the silver plaque, but he couldn't figure out what it said. Sesshoumaru had never seen such carving before, not even in the ancient texts back at the castle. 'Hmm, I will have to ask this ningen what the object is and what is carved into it. She most likely knows what it is since she carries it about on her person.'
Sesshoumaru walked the distance back to the girl, turned her over and picked her up gently so as not to hurt her injured leg. Not really concentrating he formed his red cloud beneath his feet and placed the girl onto it with the same gentleness. Sesshoumaru gave the area one last look around to make he did not miss anything else. The only other things he saw was a broken bow and an empty quiver. Both of which were useless now.
Sesshoumaru willed his cloud into the air and started westward towards his castle.
As he was flying over the colorful autumn canopy of the forest, Sesshoumaru took a whiff of the surrounding area to make sure there were no rouge youkai prowling his lands. His nose was instead assaulted by an intoxicatingly sweet fragrance. Sesshoumaru looked to his right where the girl lay, still unconscious, near his feet. He tested the air the again and realized suddenly there was only the smell of dried blood and had been for some time.
Frustrated with himself for not noticing earlier, Sesshoumaru sped towards his destination. The castle of the West.
Sesshoumaru, after two hours of flying, had finally landed in his courtyard. As he picked up the girl with his tail around her knees and right arm under her neck, Sesshoumaru saw Jaken scurrying towards him ending with a bow so low his beak touched the ground.
"Jaken," Sesshoumaru said in his bored tones.
"Hai, milord."
"I want the room to the right of my own prepared for the girl by the time I arrive," Sesshoumaru commanded.
"But milord, that room is --"
"Leave." That one word sent Jaken to perform the duties his lord had told him at the speed of light.
Sesshoumaru calmly strode down the halls, taking turns where necessary straight to the western wing. He nodded to the soldiers that keep watch over who goes in to the halls of the western lord.
"Lord Sesshoumaru," Jaken began as he saw his lord approaching the room, "the room is ready."
"Good, you may leave." With that Jaken jogged of to the servants' quarters.
Carrying the girl in his arms, Sesshoumaru walked in the door and placed her on the bed gently so as not to disturb the girl.
'Kaoru,' Sesshoumaru mentally summoned his servant.
"Hai, milord," said youkai responded. "I was around the corner when milord summoned me." Kaoru responded when she saw the question in his eyes.
"Hmm.... You are to take care of her every need. Take her measurements, then come to my study with that yellow sack and make sure proper attire is given to her for all occasions, including casual." With that he left Kaoru to her work, not even waiting for a reply.
Kaoru quickly set to work as her lord ordered. She deftly took off the girl's sack so as not to wake her. Kaoru, who had smelled dried blood when walking in, cleaned ot off after undressing her and tucked her in the silk blankets.
Kaoru then picked up the yellow sack and girl's torn clothes. She was about to walk out the shoji doors, when she heard a moan and the rustling of sheets. Kaoru turned around to see the girl had only moved in her sleep. The girl was quite beautiful, Kaoru noticed, 'Perhaps she will be able to make Lord Sesshoumaru understand emotions make one stronger not weaker.'
Remembering that she had to deliver the sack to Lord Sesshoumaru, Kaoru turned left to his study. She knocked twice and when she heard "Come in" went inside.
Sesshoumaru had his back to Kaoru when she entered. He was looking out his balcony window observing his lands.
"Milord," Kaoru started, "the sack you told to be brought to you-"
"Place it on the table and leave," Sesshoumaru ordered.
"Hai, milord." Kaoru replied and did as she was ordered to do.
Sesshoumaru turned from his gaze over his lands and walked to the sack. He flipped it open and stretched out the inner opening to look inside.
There were obvious things like clothes. And then there was Ramen, a medical kit by the looks and smell of it, water in a bottle, and by the sounds of it, some sort of liquid in a metal cylinder with red paint and white markings on it. What really peaked his curiosity, were the letters on the metal cylinder. They were the same as the ones used on the object he had found earlier that day. He dared not slice it open, in case it was dangerous. Next, he found a flat circular shaped object with some sort of a string attached to the side of it which broke off near the end with knobs on each end. Then finally, at the bottom of the sack, Sesshoumaru found some more cylindrical objects except these were smaller in shape. They were colored a yellowish- green with black lettering. All of them were flat on one end and the other had a stump extended from the center.
'What are these strange objects? I have never seen such here in Japan, or anywhere else. Come to think of it, I know next to nothing about the girl except that she traveled with that hanyou brother of mine.'
What was he to do with her? He doubted the ningen knew anything of value, not for himself, but for Rin. Then again, assumptions can often be incorrect.
'Kaoru.... When the girl regains consciousness, bring her to my study but don't tell her who I am.'
'Hai, my Lord,' Kaoru responded telepathically.
Now to just wait and find out. Kami only knows how patient Sesshoumaru can be for any sort of new information.
