RUN!
A/N: I'm back! And with another fic. I know I really should be working on my other one but I've come to writers block on that one. I'm very sorry to all those who are waiting for me to update. You're going to have to wait a bit longer. Anyways, this idea has been bothering me for sometime now. I have to write it! It came to me just after I started writing my first fic. I decided to hold off because I wanted to finish my other fic. As that is going nowhere as I've already said, I decided to try this. Also, you may notice that I put this fic in the alternate universe catagory but it does take place in the past. However there is no Kagome going down the well and freeing Inuyasha from a tree. It's not the same events as in Inuyasha. Now I will let you get to the story.

He's My Savoir ; She's My Strength
Chapter 1: Run
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha. I said it. I got to go cry now.
**************************
Keep running, keep running, keep running . The same thought was repeated over and over again. Her survival instincts had kicked in, pushing her body past its limits. She barely felt the pain in her legs or the cramp in her side. The thing was she still felt it. No matter how much her mind screamed at her to stop, that she was in pain, she kept going. The reason she was not dead yet was because she didn't listen to her mind. She knew deep inside of her, the part that did listen to her mind, she would have to stop soon. She was, although dimly, aware of her body's pain. Her adrinaline(sp?) was slowly dying and with it her survival instincts. She had been running to long and now the words keep running meant nothing. She knew she was going to die anyway. Wasn't her favorite saying get it done and over with. The sooner it was done the sooner she could move on. It's not like she wanted to stay in this world anyway. There was nothing here that she wanted. Her family and friends were gone. It was her fault.
*****FLASHBACK*****
Knock knock knock.
"Kagome get the door, please." Kagome opened the door to see Kaede standing there. Next to her Sango and Miroku fought over who was going to give Kagome her present. Shippou and Koga were standing behind them, each shaking their heads, a present clasped in each of their hands. Everyone on the doorstep looked up when the door opened all the way. "Kagome!!!!" There was a large pile of bodies where Kagome once stood. Shippou, Koga, Miroku, and Sango had tried to give Kagome a hug all at once. After a couple of moans and groans along with a bit of help all the friends were up again. Kaede sighed after helping them up and passed them by. She knew where Kagome's parents would be.
After Kaede had left and hugs were over with Shippou, Koga, Miroku, and Sango made a circle around Kagome. They shouted as loud as their voices would allow ,"HAPPY 6th BIRTHDAY KAGOME!" At that point each held out a present to her(Sango and Miroku holding the same present). Kagome cried happy tears and thanked each one before gathering the presents into her arms. Still crying she led her best friends into the backyard. Kaede was talking to her parents, and her younger brother Sota played in the sand patch. After putting the presents on a table to be opened latter she led her friends over to the large tree in her backyard. They played living the day to the fullest. They played tag, hide-and-seek and had races. An all-around good day.
"Kagome, Shippou, Koga, Sango and Miroku. Get over here you monkeys and eat." Kagome's mom, Kiara, called them over. They (the children) raced down the tree from which they were perched to get to the food. They decided to make a race of it.
"I won. I won. I WON!"
"That's cheating! You used your demon abilities. We don't have any."
"That's not true Sango. Shippou has demon abilities just like mine."
"I didn't use them you cheater."
"No one said I couldn't"
"That's true guys. We never said he couldn't use them."
"Be quiet Miroku. You're not supposed ta take sides with cheater."
"Why not?"
"I don't know. But it was im-impl-impli..... it was supposed ta be known not to use demon abilities."
The parents rolled their eyes. It was amazing that they were such great friends with all the fighting they did. Shrugging the adults began to pass out the food. It quickly shut everybody up. Munching on their rice and sushi the children talked and laughed wondering what kagome would get from her parents. None of the others ever had to do this at their birthdays as all were orphaned at a young age. Kaede took care of them and they usually knew what she was giving them. With three other children sneaking to find out and not being able to keep their mouths shut it wasn't that hard to find out. This tradition of the unknown was for Kagome's birthday alone.
After eating the adults cleared the table that they were eating at and put the stack of presents in front of Kagome. Everyone was quiet even Sota, observing her. She got to chose which one she opened up first. She looked over all of them. All the paper was hand made and it made Kagome feel special that someone would spend such time on her. She finally decided on Sango's and Miroku's. She was curious about what the present was that they were fighting over it. Slowly and carefully she opened the paper, trying not to tear it. Biting her lip she slowly pulled out the items inside and place the paper aside, somewhere it wouldn't rip. She turned the items over in her hand and smiled. They had made friendship bracelets for her and had given her a book full of drawing of the five friends(Sota didn't count). She started to cry again thanking Miroku and Sango over and over again. each smiled and embraced her, proud of their present. They had worked hard to make those things and were elated that Kagome loved them. After getting herself back together and placing the book and bracelets aside for a minute, she pulled Shippou's present close. Again the group watched as she carefully opened the hand made wrapping paper. Inside was the book she had been admiring on the shop shelves for months know. With a navy blue cover and fake jewels and gold stars glued onto the cover , it was the prettiest book she'd ever seen. It was called Magyk and she knew it cost a fortune. If it didn't she would have already bought it. She knew Shippou must have worked hard (it was hard to get money around this tiny town) and felt guilty.
"Shippou, this must have cost a fortune! Wasn't it hard to get the money?"
"Nothing's too hard or takes to long to for you Kagome."Shippou quickly told her. he embraced a again crying Kagome, also feeling proud of his gift. He rubbed Kagome's back in soothing circles waiting for Kagome to regain her composure. She did after a while and moved back to the front of the presents. The only gift left was Koga's. Again she was careful with the paper and again she started to cry when she saw the present. It was a velvet purple covered notebook. It was the other thing she had been admiring in the store. She loved to write and everyone knew it. She would write or draw on anything her parents would let her. She ran to Koga and threw her arms around him.
"This must have cost you as much as the book cost Shippou!"
"We worked together to get the work done twice as fast and do twice as many jobs. Also, Kagome the book isn't just for writing it's for drawing too. Now you can do both in the same book."
"Thank you so much! I love it!" Koga began to do what Shippou did to calm her down. When she was calm she wiped her face and moved back to the front of her now open presents. Sota slowly walked up to her (he just learned how to) and pressed a piece of paper in her hands. When Kagome opened her fist and opened the paper she saw a picture of herself and Sota in front of the shrine they lived in. It was a big step up from his usual scribbles and had obviously taken alot of time. It was great work for a two-year-old. His best yet. She looked up from the paper and shared a look with him through her tear-blurred eyes. The look said thank you, I love you.
At this time the parents emerged from the house where they made tea and watched the exchange of presents from the window. Kiara along with Kaede were now holding presents. Kaede went first. Before giving the package that was behind her back she knelt to Kagome's level and spoke to her. "You have one of the purest souls I've ever seen. As you well know I was the village miko before your mom took over. Apparently miko powers now run in our family. Your mother is too busy to teach you how to control your power so I will. However, before I give you my present you must read the miko's prayer. You must memorize this and say it everyday along with your other prayers." She then handed Kagome a scroll. Everyone looked at her expectantly waiting for her to read it. Taking a deep breath she began:
"Kami, please give me knowledge to know what is wrong and what needs to be done. Please give me strengh to be able to help. PLease give me understanding to know what is going on. Please give me acceptance to help everyone and not be bias. And please give me a good soul to help everyone that needs my help."
The silence was deafening after she fininshed. The words resounded in everyones heads. Sota began to clap, shattering the silence and bringing everyone out of their trances.
"Very good child. I've never heard of anyone to get it on their first try." Kagome felt different. More powerful, and more confident in her decisions. Kaede must have noticed that change. She slowly brought her arm around for Kagome to see. It was a bow and a quiver full of arrows. They looked worn but in perfectly good condition.
"Thank you Kaede-baba!" Kagome all but screamed. She gave a quick tight hug to Kaede before carefully taking the quiver and bow, slinging them on to her back. Her friends came up to admire her new weapons. She was the last to get one. Miroku had a staff, Sango a small boomerang, Koga a sword and Shippou katana's. They congradulated her and talked about training. A deep "ahem" made them all turn to Keiro, Kagome's father. He handed a small wooden box to Kagome. Looking perplexed she slowly opened the box to reveala red velvet inside gently cushioning a fushia jewel on a necklace. She looked up at her parents, confusion written on her face. Why would they give such a precious jewel to a girl one six summers old?
"That jewel has been passed down in our family for many years now. Mikos are supposed to keep that jewel safe and purified. They must gaurd the jewel with their very life. It has the power to grant any wish one might have. Many demons are after it to become stronger. After a wish is made the jewel will dissappear. However, the wish must be pure and can't be selfish. Few wishes are such. We pass this jewel down to you in hopes that you will protect it with as much care and dedication as mikos in the past have done. We trust you. The Shikon jewel is now yours."
That is when the perfect day turned into the days she would remeber on her deathbed.
***************************************************************************************************************
"Give me the Shikon!!" The snake demon hissed. It had attacked the shrine right after Kiara stopped speaking. Everyone was hudled protectively around Kagome doing their best to kill the snake demon. This was harder than it sounds as the demon was bigger than the shrine and much longer. Most of the party members were wounded. One had even died. Kagome had sobbed over Keiro's body only leaving when her mother pulled her away. Now the adults instructed the children to take Kagome into the forest and run as fast as the could in the opposite direction. A few minutes later the demon was after them. The adults had died fighting for the children, yet none of the children wanted to think of that at the moment. Soon after the demon caught up. Koga was gone from Kagome's side in a flash. She didn't even see where Koga went until she looked behind her when she hear a scream. She saw Koga screaming in the demons fangs. He stopped soon enough, his body hanging limp impaled on a fang. She stopped running and stared in shock at his body. It didn't make sense. Why were her friends and family dying?
Sango and Miroku grabbed her, placed her on Shippou's back. He used his demon speed to get away, leaving Sango and Miroku behind. They realized Kagome was to be protected with their lives. The last she saw of both of them was a smile and a wave. Then all saw were green and brown blurs as trees whipped by. With his speed Shippou managed to get them a good distance away before they heard Sango and Miroku's screams cut through the air. However, Shippou's wounds were slowing him down. He knew he would have no strength left soon. He began to prepare Kagome to run.
"I'm.....getting tired(gasp)Kagome. I'm(wheeze) going to .......throw you. (gasp) When you land run." Before Kagome had time to retort to his instructions he threw her as far as his strength would allow. The last thing she heard from his mouth was RUN!
*****END FLASHBACK*****
Tears streamed down her face as she remembered her friends. She left them only awhile ago and she already missed them.
CRACK
Looking behind her she tried to figure out what happened. Wild life was scattering from behind her so she knew it was close behind. Since she was looking behind she tripped on one of the many roots and came crashing to the ground.
CRASH
The earth vibrated shaking Kagome back to the ground as she tried to get up. Now she knew for sure it was the demon from before as she had never seen one so strong and the crash was obviously made by an acient tree falling to the ground. It was amazing the demon still had strength after all the wounds her friends had inflicted. She tried to get up again, but now that her body was stopped it wouldn't start again. She quickly crawled as fast as she could to the opposite side if the clearing she landed in when she felt the demon behind her. Wait felt? Shaking her head she remembered that she had more important things to worry about. Like the demon that was opposite her.
"Give me the shikon." it hissed again. Kagome began to pray. Pray that someone would help her. Prayed someone would save her life. She saw the demon about to attack and closed her eyes. When the attack didn't come she opened one eye. When she saw a man standing in front of her she opened both eyes. He was protecting her! Her prayers had come true. He dared to look around him and saw the demon was dead. She looked back up at the man, no boy and took in the features that she could see. The long white hair that grew to the middle of his back. The squared shoulders and strong build. The silk clothes spoke of royalty. When he turned around to see if she was okay she saw the honey-gold eyes blue cresent moon on his forhead and one magenta stripe on each cheek. He bent down.
"Are you okay?" His deep voice asked. So much like her father's. Her father's voice she would never hear again. She broke down and cried, clinging to him like he was her only connection to this world.
