The begining of the end

"Shhhh," Kagome cooed to the tiny bundle, lightly wrapped in furs, that she rocked in her arms. His cries filled the early morning air. The room was still dark, only the slightest pre-dawn light shone outside, causing the moon and stars to loose their luster. Kagome took in a deep breath of the cool air. As she let it out again a soothing tune flowed from her lips.

"Mori mo iyagaru Bon kara saki nya

Yuki mo chiratsukushi Ko mo nakuashi"

It was sung a little louder then a whisper as it worked to soothe the fussy baby back to sleep. Her angelic voice made all other morning sounds disappear. The only noise left was the rhythmic creaking made from the motion of the rocking chair.

The family heir loom was made from a very old oak, with mystic white dogs carved into the wood. Each figure appeared to be bounding happily amongst an imaginary scene. The piece of furniture was so large in stature that Kagome could only use the tips of her toes to move it.

"Bon ga kita to te Nani ureshikaro

Katabira wa nashi Obi wa nashi"

As the baby's sobs subsided to quiet whimpers, his tiny eye lids slowly began to close. Kagome smiled when the infant began to hiccup in his sleep. She admired his features. His tiny pointed ears, the wispy white strands of hair that already flowed down to his shoulders, and the maroon stripes that crossed his cheeks and little clawed hands. He looked just like his father.

"Kono ko you naku Mori wo baijiru

Mori mo ichinichi Yaseru yara

Hayo mo ikita ya kono sato koete

Mukou ni mieru wa Oya no uchi

Mukou ni mieru wa Oya no uchi"

Kagome rose from the rocking chair to place the baby into the comforts of his cradle. It too was carved out of a very old oak with the same molding of Inu youkai flying and running about. Her hand lingered around his face as she ran her fingers along his cheek up to the tip of his ear.

"Mori mo iyagaru Bon kara ureshikaro

Katabira was nas-"

All sound was suddenly jerked from her throat. Kagome brought her hands to her neck as she gasped for air. An immense pain erupted from her stomach. She hunched over clutching her side, the room was beginning to spin as the cool morning air eluted her lungs.

Kagome's legs buckled as she fell to her knees, quickly clutching onto the side of the cradle. She winced at the sudden pressure against her chest. It felt like a great force was pinned against her. Only a moan escaped her lips as she gritted her teeth together not allowing any sound to pass that might wake the unknowing pup, but all of her efforts were in vain as his heart shattering screams ripped from his throat.

Kagome didn't understand what was happening. She tried to look around, her eyes darting to every shadow and darkened corner, but there was nothing, demon or human. There was no one in the room with her and the baby. 'Could it be magic'. Kagome was beginning to feel frightened.

The pressure in her chest increased and the burning pain from her side spread throughout her entire body. Slowly she began to understand what was happening. Why her and the baby were feeling this. It wasn't a memory returning or a thought she had, it was a feeling, from deep inside. Something was wrong, really wrong. Kagome tried to stand so she could grab the infant and comfort his pains; only her legs felt numb and did not heed her call.

She slid down the rest of the way to the cold wood floor. "Shhh. Ok. Allright my little man," she called to him from the ground. Tears ran down her cheeks. Kagome felt frightened, her baby was in pain and she was unable to move, powerless to comfort her child.

In complete fear and frustration she did the only thing she could do.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" The scream was long and laced with anguish. Kagome felt completely helpless and scared. The action caused her throat to burn and made the room begin to spin once again.

No longer then a second later a youkai burst in through the shoji screen. It was Suwa, the baby's nanny and her former personal servant, but most of all she was the family's most trusted friend.

Suwa had been tending to the outside chores when the sound of her lady's scream reached her sensitive Inu youkai ears.

In that moment Suwa felt her heart stop and drop deep in the pit of her stomach. Just as quickly it sped up as she used her youkai speed to run towards the danger. As she approached the chambers, the wails of the young lord echoed in the hallways.

Her eyes widened at the sight before her. There on the floor her mistress and dearest friend laid curled up in on her self like a child. Her tiny form was shaking and a few glimmers of sweat appeared on her forehead. The pup she loved like her own was in his cradle. His face was pure red. Tears streamed down his puffy cheeks as his cry's made his little body tremble.

Once she caught her breath Suwa ran to Kagome's side. "My lady, what's wrong, what ails you?" The only reply she received was a couple of pain filled grunts.

Kagome's face was contorted in agony, except Suwa didn't understand why. Kagome appeared fine. There was no smell of blood or open wounds on any part of her body. The servant glanced between Kagome and the pup. She was at a complete loss at what to do. 'What could be done for that which you can't even see'.

"Suwa" The sound broke her from her thoughts and instantly the servant knelt down, with her ear only an inch from Kagome's mouth.

"Yes...what is it my lady" Suwa encouraged her mistress to continue.

"Its my mate...something is wrong with Sesshomaru- Ahhhhhhh" another scream was ripped from her throat.

Suwa winced at the scream. Kagome's words replayed in her head. 'Something is wrong with Sesshomaru'. Their lord was out, patrolling the lands as he would do every morning.

Understanding tore her heart in half. For Kagome to be in so much pain can only mean their lord is in his own amount of suffering. The bond that the family held is so strong that his mate and son were also feeling his affliction.

Suwa moved Kagome's head to rest in her lap as she soothingly brushed away the bangs that clung to the sweat upon her face. The servant's chest began to vibrate as her purrs cooed to the screaming infant.

Kagome's sudden light breathing made Suwa nervous. Her face was no longer askew. It was surprisingly peaceful looking. And her former, tightly coiled figure laid limp in the demons arms.

Suwa understood. The torment and strain put upon Kagome's body had finally taken its toll as her fragile being could endure no more and blacked out

The same helplessness that Kagome had previously felt was now rising in the Inu youkai. Her lady and friend she held in her arms was unconscious. The lord and master of the castle was in trouble. His son and heir lay crying for his father and mother, along with his own pain.

Casting her head upwards Suwa let out a fierce howl, which resonated through the lands, letting all know that the royal family was in trouble.

The air was chilly. A layer of morning due rested upon the land. Stars had begun to fade out of sight as the first light of the new morning made its journey over the distant ridge. Sesshomaru was out on patrol. Making sure that the borders had not been breeched and that peace still ruled the lands.

It was a morning like all other; except his mind- though trained to stay focused at all times- kept slipping away to a warm and comfortable place, like under the furs with his beautiful mate, rutting the day away. The thought warmed his body, but it was only wishful thinking. As lord of the land he could not spend all his time showing his mate and new pup the affection they deserved. Duties and obligations filled the hours of each day.

Sesshomaru's thoughts turned to how he had first mated his Kagome; the powerful miko, who once traveled with his half brother Inuyasha searching out the Shikon jewel shards and the vile hanyou: Naraku.

What a prize he had won. Every night while she slept he would stay up, staring at her peaceful form while she slept and thank kami for placing her on this earth and into his hands. Now his soul felt complete, with a family that loved him and a kingdom to rule.

His life had changed a lot in this past year. Just three years ago if a fortune teller was to approach and inform him that he'd be mating the miko Kagome, then adopting Rin and the kitsune pup Shippo as his own, this Sesshomaru would have ran a claw through her flesh for such disrespect.

So deep in thought, Sesshomaru barely caught hint of a scent he thought would never foul the air he breathed again. He snarled as only one name came to mind, 'Naraku'. Only the hanyou was dead. Killed in front of his very eyes by his mate, with help from him and Inuyasha, so then what was this stench?

Sesshomaru went off in the direction of the smell. As he approached, a huge claw swung out in front of him. Sidestepping the appendage easily enough, he turned to see the creature's body breaking through the tree line. It was an unusual lizard demon. Four times larger then their regular size, making it look down upon Sesshomaru's humanoid form.

Its skin was a pale green with boils covering its body. Red eyes only added to the lizard demons disfigured face. Once again it tried to attack. Sesshomaru avoided the demons sharp claws and in a second unsheathed Toukijin. He was prepared to attack when a familiar sound came closer.

"Kuku kuku" Sesshomaru growled as the notorious white baboon pelt entered the clearing. He was only allowed a few moments to glare at the hanyou before he was once again using demon speed to elude the lizard demons swinging tail.

When Sesshomaru landed he stood just a few feet from Naraku. "How did you survive?" the words came out through a growl.

"I'm not that easy to kill, Lord Sesshomaru," His words caused Sesshomaru to snarl.

"What have you come for, the jewel?...If that is still your desire, then know now that it is I whom it's protection lies under," Sesshoumaru growled back icily.

Naraku let loose another chuckle which only proved to anger the inu youkai further. "Lord Sesshomaru I will acquire all that I yearn for, it is only a shame you will not be around to see it."

Tired of the hanyou's insolent mouth, Sesshomaru decided it was time to shut it for good. With one swipe of his blade Naraku's fur fell to the dirt exposing a wooden figurine entwined in hair. Disappointed in this revelation, Sesshomaru decided to take out his anger on the still advancing lizard youkai.

Giving the vile creature the same treatment as Naraku's puppet, in one slice of a sword the demon was split in half. He gave the clearing one more pass, while sheathing Toukijin.

Turning to retire to his home, Sesshomaru thoughts converted back to Naraku. Somehow the despicable creature had not been as dead as they thought. He would have to break the news to Kagome. No doubt it will upset her greatly.

Sesshomaru was in mid thought when suddenly the sound of something moving behind him caused his body to jerk around, but it was to late as the lizards claw shot at advanced speed making contact with his side. Its claws ripped flesh and spilled blood. Unaffected by his wound, Sesshomaru lashed at the claw with his poisonous whip melting the appendage in seconds.

The smell of his own blood stung his nostrils. Peering at the wound, Sesshomaru mentally berated himself for being caught off guard with a wound as evidence to show his carelessness. With a silent grunt he continued on his way knowing his lesion would heal before returning home.

At each passing moment Sesshomaru's vision became further obscured. It had been only a little while since the confrontation. The sun's full mass had just appeared over the ridge. Sharp burning sensations fueled from the wound spread throughout his stomach.

The smell of blood was mixed with a foul decaying stench. Looking down at his wound, visible through the shredded white haori, he saw dried blood and a foreign thick black substance oozing from his side. Sesshomaru's eyes thinned as he stared at the offending mass.

The black substance was beginning to devour flesh as it spread throughout his abdomen. Pale skin turned a decaying black. His body felt like it was on fire as it stretched up his chest.

Sharp pains exploded on the inside of his body, as his lungs felt tight and restricted breathing. The ordeal came over him so fast once again catching him unprepared.

Slowly his legs gave in and he fell to his knees. Sesshomaru grunted at being forced in such a position not becoming a demon of his status. Sweat ran from his face as he fought to stay kneeling. A lesser demon would have already been writhing in pain on the ground, but not Sesshomaru.

He used all his strength to stand back up. The goal being to make it home to the castle where there were healers. Whatever this poison was, soon it would take over his entire body as it had already spread down both his legs to mid thigh and up one arm. Each step was excruciatingly painful. Further pressure was placed upon his chest as the pain in his abdomen doubled.

The morning light was fading in and out. His eyes would focus then grow foggy. The effect the poison had on his body was made to act rapidly and be deadly effective.

After what seemed like hours and over a million steps, Sesshomaru had made it about 6 feet from his starting position. His body felt so numb that when it hit the ground with a thud he hadn't even felt it.

Before the world went black he made out the faint smell of his soldiers nearing. One name came to mind before blacking out. 'Kagome'

Please, I have apsolutly no idea what the song is about. I have tried to find translations for it and failed. So if anyone knows what the translated words are just send them to me and I will happily post it for everyone.
