Air by chocolate
Chapter 1
So this is my very first fanfiction, so please review and give your comments on how I can make this fanfiction better! But please, constructive criticism! And please, if anyone feels that I might have taken another author's idea, please tell me and I will give the proper credit! (But I really hope that I have not plagiarized, because the main components of this fanfiction did come out of my brain). Well enough with my ramblings, enjoy!
CHAPTER ONE: Return
She couldn't breathe, she couldn't move either, and the evil suffocated her. She felt a pair of hands slither around her neck, slowly but firmly restricting the air that she was desperately trying to get into her lungs. As it gets more difficult she panics, clawing at those hands that are slowly killing her, she screams, but no sound manifests except for the laugh. That laugh. Her lungs are burning, she feels herself slowly slipping into oblivion...
Kagome jolted awake breathing heavily, it took her a few moments to return her breathing to normal, she blinked a couple of times before she realized that she was with the others at the camp that they had set up earlier that night. Looking at her wristwatch that displayed the time as two o'clock in the morning, she groaned in anger and desperation. She knew that she would be unable to fall back asleep after that nightmare. But one question plagued her mind, "Why did the nightmares come back?" Needing to be somewhere so she can think, Kagome decided to head to the lake near where their camp was located. Keeping an eye on the others, Kagome slowly and carefully moved out of her sleeping bag, holding her breath as Inuyasha stirred in his sleep, once he settled down again, Kagome let out the breathe she was holding. Once fully out of her sleeping bag, Kagome made her way towards the lake.
As Kagome walked towards the lake she used her miko powers to scan the area for any dangerous demons that might be lurking in the shadows, satisfied that there were not any, at least not any that can harm her, she continued her short journey to the lake. As the lake fell into view, her eyes and mouth became equally wide in sheer awe of the site. The lake and the immediate area surrounding the lake was bathed in the moonlight, the image of the moon mirrored in the unpolluted water, and the land surrounding the lake was filled with wild flowers, all in full bloom. The breeze caressed her hair long black hair causing Kagome to momentarily to forget the reason to why she sought the solitude of the lake in the midst of night. However, all good things must come to an end, and the expression of serenity quickly turned into a frown. The nightmares. That is why she came to the lake. Why did they return?
Choosing a soft spot within the meadows of flowers, Kagome sat and erected a barrier around herself so that no youkai or human will succeed in either harming or kidnapping her while she was pondering the reason to why the nightmares returned after an absence, albeit she did not know why the nightmares plagued her in the first place.
Sighing, Kagome brought her knees to her and chest and rested her head on her knees.
"Why did the nightmares return? What am I going to do? Maybe I can go back to sleep... NO! You cannot do that! Remember when you first had those nightmares when you were still under his care? You tried to go back asleep, but those nightmares came back and were more horrific than the first. It was only him that stopped the nightmares from reoccurring. But those nightmares stopped a couple of nights after I left his care! Why do they haunt me again?" Kagome sighed loudly as the conversation between herself failed to come to a conclusive end.
"I guess the only choice for me is to just sit the night out and enjoy the silence and beauty of the lake." Kagome said out loud to no one in particular as she surveyed her environment. "If only he was here, then I can sleep..." were Kagome's last thoughts before she became lost in the different kinds of flowers that surrounded her.
