The sun shined down upon the flower filled meadow as a pair of lovers ran through it. The young woman ran through the flowers with a smile on her face. She wore a white kimono and a tiara on her head. Her long black hair flowed behind her as she ran from her lover.

He smiled as he began to catch up to her. He was adorned with a white harori and hakama. His long silver locks blew by his face as the wind changed directions. The scent of flowers filled his nose. The scent lightened his heart as he continued his chase.

The frolicked through that meadow for hours. Finally, he managed to catch her. He pounced on her and they both rolled down the hillside. When they reached the bottom, she burst out laughing. He looked at her with a cocked eyebrow. She pointed to the flowers that now made their home in his hair. He too laughed at himself.

They laid in the grass for a long while. Then, she got up and began to run again. After a moment, he too, began to run. This time, she led him to the forest. He hoped she didn't go far in seeing as the forest was a very dangerous place for humans. He ran on, not worrying that she would be hurt.

// I hope you can hear me

I remember it clearly //

" AHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

A womans scream echoed off the trees and to his ears. He ran faster, hoping to save her. The screams became louder and louder as he drew closer and closer. Then, he skidded to a stop. The determination on his face vanished as the scene before him played out.

She screamed on last time.

The beast dropped her and ran.

A bloody hand hit the ground.

His eyes grew wide as he cried.

" NOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

He awoke with a fright. He was covered with sweat and he was shaking uncontrollably. He panted heavily as memories of his dream returned to him. Why was he still dreaming about that day? It happened eight long years ago, shouldn't he have moved on by now?

Just then, the door crept open as a small child walked into the room. She walked over to his side and crawled into bed with her father.

" Rin, what is wrong?" he asked the child.

" Rin had bad dream then Rin woke up to hear daddy yelling. Rin guessed daddy must be having bad dream too. Rin came to keep daddy form having bad dreams." She said tiredly.

SesshoMaru looked at Rin a moment.

" Alright Rin, you can sleep in here tonight." He said.

Rin's face lit up with a smile as she crawled under the covers and fell asleep.

SesshoMaru looked at Rin as she slept. His thoughts kept returning to Rin's mother. SesshoMaru gently stroked the girls' bangs as she slept. A warm smile crept across his face as tears warmed his eyes.

" I love you Rin."

Then SesshoMaru also got under the covers and fell asleep.

// I didn't get around to kiss you

Good-bye on the hand

I wish I could see you again

But I know that I can't //

" AHHHHHHHHH!"

The scream of his lover echoed through the forest. SesshoMaru ran faster in hopes that he would make it in time. His surroundings turned to green and brown mush as he drew closer to her. Her screams racked his ears to the point that they were almost bleeding.

' So close... So close'

SesshoMaru came to a sudden stop when he reached the clearing. But before he could do anything, the demon dropped her and ran for safety. SesshoMaru watched, frozen by fear, in slow motion as her limp body fell to the ground and landed in a pool of blood. He shook himself back to his senses and ran to her side. He began to cry when he couldn't hear a heartbeat.

" NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

// I hope you can hear me

I remember it clearly //

" NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

SesshoMaru awoke once again. His heart was pounding so hard, he though it would surely rupture. He panted heavily as he began to look for Rin but she was nowhere to be found. SesshoMaru began to panic but then realized it was morning and Rin was surely at breakfast.

After SesshoMaru managed to calm down, he dresses for the day and joined Rin at the breakfast table. After breakfast, he sent Rin to her classes while he went to his study and worked on some papers.

Later that after noon, jaken came to his masters' study.

" My lord, the suitors are here. Please go make your selection."

SesshoMaru froze. Suitors, that meant marriage and starting another family. He never wanted to get married again after what had happened and jaken knew that. Jaken was forcing SesshoMaru to remarry and give the territory another heir. SesshoMaru would not have it. He strictly told jaken, after what had happened, that he would never remarry and that Rin was the heir to the throne. SesshoMaru was furious with jaken for bring suitors into his home.

" Jaken! I told you that I will NOT remarry! Rin is the heir to the throne! Now! Remove all of those WHORES from my home! Immediately!"

Jaken shook with fear as his master yelled at him. After, he nodded and scurried off to tell the women to leave.

After jaken had left, SesshoMaru pulled out an ink painting he had done of his love. He looked at the painting, wishing it were really her. He knew he could never have her back, it was impossible to revive the dead. He had already tried the tenseiga but it refused to revive her.

" I wish you were here my love, I miss you so much."

SesshoMaru came to a sudden stop when he reached his destination. He quickly froze as he eyed the situation.

She was in the jaws of the demon, blood covered her white kimono. Her tiara lay in a pool of her own blood. Blood flowed over her body and fell like a waterfall of crimson to the ground. Her head was facing him, her eyes told him that she was dieing. She mouthed his name as more blood poured from her mouth. By that time the demon had spotted him. It quickly dropped her and ran for its life.

SesshoMaru rushed to her side but he was too late, she was dead. He collapsed on him knees next to her as he began to cry for her.

" NOOOOOOOOO!"

// I had my wake up

Won't you wake up

I keep askin' why //

" NOOOOOOOOO!"

He continued to cry as he cradled her lifeless body in his arms. Tears flowed down his face as he kissed her blood stained forehead. He held her so close as if protecting her from all the dangers the world had to offer.

" Wake up. Please for god sakes wake up. Please, I need you, our daughter needs you. Please, please wake up." Were SesshoMaru's pleas to heaven itself as his love left the earth. He just couldn't understand, why of all people did she have to die?

// And I can't take it

After SesshoMaru had regained his composure, he laid her body down and pulled out tenseiga. He tried and tried again to revive her but he couldn't. He just couldn't bring her back. SesshoMaru, after realizing this, dropped the sword and cried over her body. He cried for hours and even when he did stop, he would want to continue crying for his dead love.

// Now you're gone

Late that night, SesshoMaru returned to his home. He was covered in blood from head to toe, as was his love. He carried her in his arms back to the palace. Jaken greeted his lord but soon grew sorrowful when he saw his lord and lady's condition.

" Quickly milord! We can still save her!"

SesshoMaru sighed, trying to fight the tears that threatened his eyes.

" We can't save her jaken, I was too late." SesshoMaru stated in a hoarse voice.

Jaken instantly understood what his lord was saying and went to tell everyone else of the tragedy that had occurred on that terrible day.

SesshoMaru awoke with tears in his eyes. It was morning. He got up, dressed and went to see if Rin was awake. After breakfast, SesshoMaru and Rin went up to the beautiful meadow where he and his love would spend time. The climbed the hill to reach the treasure at the top.

There, in the center of the hill, was a grave marker. Written on the marker was his loves name. He had her ashes buried on the hill where she spent her last true moments of life. SesshoMaru put a bouquet of red roses in front of the marker. Rin looked at her father confused.

" This is where your mother is now Rin. Her ashes where buried here. You don't remember her, do you?"

Rin shook her head no.

" Well, you're a perfect duplicate of her."

" What's a ' duplicate' daddy?" Rin asked.

" A duplicate is a copy. You look just like her is what I'm trying to say Rin. Do you understand?"

Rin nodded her head. She then picked some flowers and put them with her fathers' roses. After she did that, she looked at her father with a big smile on her face. SesshoMaru couldn't help but smile back. He then hugged his daughter and told her to go back home and get to classes. SesshoMaru watched with an eagle's eye as his one and only daughter walk home alone. After she was safely inside, he turned back to the grave.

" I understand why I can't move on. It's because I can't stop loving you but can you blame me? You were my one true love and you were taken from me so suddenly. We had only been married for two years when you died. You left me to raise Rin all alone. Rin, she looks just like you. She acts like you. Sometimes I think I'm talking to a miniature version of you instead of our daughter. I miss you, I promise that I won't marry anyone else and Rin will be my only child. You were, are my only love and I'll never forget you. I love you, Kagome."
