// She walked to school
With the lunch she packed//
A girl walked down the sidewalk of down town Tokyo soaking wet. It was raining and she didn't have an umbrella. The water had caused her paper sack to turn to mush so now, she must carry her bologna sandwich. She limped all the way to school, because her knee was surly fractured after what had happened last night. Tears came to her eyes as the memory of the night before resurfaced.
~*~*~
She was sitting in her room, doing her homework, when the door burst open. She looked up from her papers in fear. There, in the doorway, was her mother and in her mothers hand was a broken beer bottle. Her eyes grew wide as she realized what the bottle was for. She jumped from her chair to her window, hoping that if she screamed, somebody would hear her and come to help her.
Mrs. Higarashi took a drunken step toward her daughter as a drunken smirk appeared on her face. " Kagome...." Came her mothers' drunken voice. " You know you deserve the punishment you're about to get...." She stated. " So... why do you want people to save you?" Mrs. Higarashi then began to laugh, a laugh that was a mixture of a drunkies laugh and the laugh of a mass murderer.
Kagome clutched her eyes shut as she felt the bottle scrap across her waist. The cold feeling of blood trickling down her side told her she was in for it this night. Kagome screamed at the top of her lungs as her mother whacked her in the head with the bottle then, Mrs. Higarashi took Kagome's archery trophy off it's shelf and hit her in the head with it was well.
As Kagome stood up, her mother hit her in her right knee with the trophy. Kagome cried out as she felt something crack. She fell to the floor and began to cry from the pain. Mrs. Higarashi took Kagome's fall as a signal to begin kicking her, and she did. Kagome couldn't breath for the next three minutes as her mother continued to kick her in the stomach. After that, her mother picked Kagome up, by her hair, and punched her like a punching bag. After a while, Mrs. Higarashi grew bored and threw Kagome hard onto the ground. Kagome began to cry again once she was sure her mother was gone.

// Nobody knows
What she's holdin' back//
Kagome limped silently down the hall of her High School as a herd of teenagers ran down the hall. The stampede of kids ran right over Kagome. She was shoved against the lockers and forced her to drop her books. They landed on the floor and were immediately stepped on. Kagome carefully bent down to pick them up. The instant her hand was on the cover of her English book, it was stepped on. Kagome fought back tears as a bolt of pain went through her arm. She quickly stood up and quietly waited for the stampede to end. She flattened herself against the lockers as the crowd grew bigger.
After a few more moments, the crowd became just the popular girls, just standing in one spot laughing at something. ' Most likely me.' Kagome thought as she bent over to pick up her books. While she was bent over, someone stopped and bent over with her. " Let me help you with those." Came a low male voice as a second pair of hands began to pick up books as well.
" Arigato." Is what came from Kagome's mouth when the stranger helped her with her books. She stood slowly, the wounds on her body would open up if took any sudden movements.
" No problem, I don't mind helping someone who needs help." The stranger handed her the books and helped her steady herself when she added them to the tall stack already in her arms.
" Arigato...um what is your name? If I may ask." Kagome said in a voice that was just above a whisper but he still heard her.
" Your very welcome. I'm SesshoMaru. I'm new here, do you mind showing me around um?" he said.
" Kagome" Kagome blurted out. " My name is Kagome. Nice to meet you SesshoMaru and I wouldn't mind showing you around." Kagome stated in her normal, cold voice.
" Arigato Kagome and it's nice to have a friend in this big school." His statement made Kagome feel warm inside when she had felt cold for so long.
Kagome got her first look of SesshoMaru when he took half of her books; he said he would help her with them since they were so heavy. He was very tall compared to Kagome and he had beautiful golden-amber eyes. His hair was a beautiful shade of white and was pulled back into a low ponytail; his hair went to his knees. He wore a black shirt that had the Good Charlotte logo on it. He wore a black jacket over his shirt and had a pair of black skater pants on with all the chains. He wore a pair of black Nike's with red laces. All in all, he was very handsome. Kagome suddenly felt like she liked SesshoMaru and she had just met him.
" Follow me." Said Kagome as she turned to go down the hall, SesshoMaru in tow. They were about to reach where the classrooms were located when suddenly.
" Look who it is girls! It's our favorite friend, Kagome!" the shrilly voice of Kikyo, the head cheerleader and most popular girl, echoed through the hall. High-pitched giggling soon followed it.
" So, Kagome, ya gonna talk to us today? Cuz you know that when you don't, it makes us feel bad and you don't want us to feel bad? Now do ya?" Kikyo stated in a very annoying tone.
Kagome just stared a head, completely ignoring the popular girls. That was, until, Kikyo mentioned her cloths.
// Wearing the same dress
She wore yesterday//
" Look girls! It's Kagome's school uniform! How many days does that make it girls? Ten, eleven, twelve days that she has worn that same outfit? Man Kagome, you need to get a new wardrobe." Kikyo stated, knowing it would make Kagome mad.
That was when Kagome remembered she had worn her cloths twelve days in a row. She had worn the same black huddie that was a size to big so the sleeves ended in the middle of her hands, the same baggy black pants that dragged the ground and the same black, warn down tennis shoes. Kagome's hair was also a big mess. Her hair went down to her waist and it was all hard and there were clumps of dry blood everywhere. Kagome had made sure her bangs were straight, even though they covered her eyes; they would cover the cuts and the black bruise on her head.
" I would Kikyo, if I could afford new cloths unlike you who can afford to throw away an outfit after you only wore it once." Kagome stated coldly. Kikyo huffed in displeasure and led the other girls away.
" Lets get going, so we won't be late." Suggested SesshoMaru once the girls were gone.
Kagome gave him a half smirk and said, " Yes, lets, we don't want to be late." Kagome led SesshoMaru all around the school, every once in a while glancing at his schedule, after a while, she realized that he had the same classes as she did. Then lunch came around. Mrs. Higarashi never gave Kagome money so Kagome didn't eat and her sandwich got trampled over during the morning rush. But, today, Kagome didn't go hungry; SesshoMaru bought her something to eat. They ate out under the big oak in the school courtyard.
As SesshoMaru finished up his lunch, Kagome took off her huddie to reveal that she was wearing a sleeveless, black shirt with the Linkin Park logo on it. What shocked SesshoMaru the most were the bruises and wounds that covered her arms. Now he knew why she didn't wear anything else.
// She hides the bruises
With the linen and lace//
" Where did you get those?" SesshoMaru asked once his mouth was empty.
Kagome just stared ahead a moment before saying, " I don't want to talk about it, ok?"
SesshoMaru nodded his head in understanding. He knew how she got them but it wasn't his place to get involved in her personal affairs with her family.
// The teacher wonders
But she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain
Behind the mask//
The rest of the day went smoothly. That was, until, the afternoon teenager stampede. Kagome wasn't fast enough with her limping, so, the kids knocked her over and began to run on top of her. After the last of them had ran over her, Kagome began to stand. She managed to stand up and limp towards the doors. She was about to open the doors when suddenly, they opened by themselves. Kagome walked out onto the landing and looked to see SesshoMaru close the door.
" I was waiting for my best friend to get out of there so I could walk her home." He stated while staring at her. Kagome turned away as she began to blush.
" You didn't have to, I mean, I walk home alone everyday."
" But you never had a friend to walk with you and now you do."
' That's right, only because mom always scares them away and won't let me have any.' Kagome thought dimly.
" Ok, you can walk me home but you can't go passed the corner house. You got that SesshoMaru?"
SesshoMaru thought a moment then nodded his head in understanding.
While they walked, Kagome wished that SesshoMaru could walk her all the way home so he could protect her from her mom but she knew that only bring her a more brutal beating after he left.
// Bearing the burden
Of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes
She was never born //
At the corner, Kagome told SesshoMaru that she would walk to school with him tomorrow. She limped her way up to the second house from the corner. When she reached the front door, before opening the door, she looked back at the corner and caught site of SesshoMaru going into the house next door. Kagome thought a moment before taking a deep breath and going inside the hellhole that was her home.
The moment Kagome had stepped inside, she was hit in the stomach with a softball bat. Kagome doubled over in pain as her mother stepped out from behind the door.
" Kagome... you're late! How many times have I told you to be home at 3 o'clock sharp?! It's 3:01! You're late and now, you'll get your punishment!" yelled Mrs. Higarashi as she began to hit Kagome repetitively with the bat. It went on for a little over 20 minutes. After Mrs. Higarashi was finished, she left to get drunk and sleep with some other men. That's all she would do since Mr. Higarashi's death.
Kagome stood up after her mother left. She leaned against the doorframe as she went out onto the porch and watched the sunset. She glanced over at the house next door, wondering if she should go over and stay with SesshoMaru until her wounds were healed. She thought against it, knowing her mother would just beat her till she was in the same condition after she came back. Kagome sighed as she watched the sky.
" I wish dad hadn't died, I wish mom had died. I wish I was never born." Is what Kagome said before she went back inside to get some sleep before her mother came home and beat her again.

In a world that she can't raise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place
Where she's loved

The next few weeks were very special to Kagome; she had her first real friend in 10 years. Her and SesshoMaru were inseparable. Not only would they talk and hang out at school but at night, when Mrs. Higarashi was either asleep or out, Kagome and SesshoMaru would talk to each other through their windows. Kagome was feeling truly happy. That was a new feeling for her; she hadn't felt it in so long that she forgot what it was like.
Mrs. Higarashi never knew about Kagome's friendship with SesshoMaru and it was probably best if she never did. Because she would surly kill Kagome for having a friend when she's not supposed to. Kagome didn't want to die now that she had a friend like SesshoMaru. She felt so safe when she was around him, it was like, with him by her side, her mother could never hurt her again. But as we all know, good things never last forever.
// Somebody cries
In the middle of the night
The neighbors hear
But they turn out their light //
One night, while Kagome was talking to SesshoMaru, Mrs. Higarashi came in. Kagome looked at her mother with more fear present in her eyes than any other time her mother had come in to beat her. Kagome glanced over at SesshoMaru before backing herself into a corner. Mrs. Higarashi walked toward her daughter at a steady pace as if calculating the best way to kill Kagome in her current position.
Mrs. Higarashi was within arms length of her daughter when she pulled out a blunt metal object that had come off the car. Then, Mrs. Higarashi began to hit Kagome with it. Kagome began to cry as her mother continued to hit her with the metal thing. Soon, Kagome began to scream because the pain was too much. The first thing was, " SesshoMaru! Help Me! Please!" but that earned her a hit on the head. Then, all that could be heard of Kagome were a few blood curdling screams then nothing.
// A fragile soul
Caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes
It will be too late //
SesshoMaru watched as the police and the medics arrived at Kagome's house only 10 minutes after she stopped screaming. He watched silently as the police broke down the door and arrested Mrs. Higarashi for the abuse of her daughter. After Mrs. Higarashi was taken away, the medics went inside to see if Kagome would be saved. SesshoMaru waited for a while before the medics came out of the house with a stretcher. On the stretcher lay a body covered with a white sheet. He knew it could only mean one thing, Kagome was dead.

Where she's loved
Concrete angel //
On a cold autumn morning, a small party of people attended the burial of one unwanted girl. The only people who attended the funeral were her grandfather, her younger brother who lived with her grandfather, the priest and SesshoMaru. No one knew SesshoMaru was there but he was. They watched silently as the casket was slowly lowered into the hole in the ground that was made just for it. After the hole was filled, a small sign bearing her name was placed on it as a temporary marker. After everyone departed, SesshoMaru set a red rose upon the fresh grave and said, " I love you Kagome, I'll see you again soon." Then, SesshoMaru left as well.
// A statue stands in a shadowed place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot //
A few weeks later, SesshoMaru returned to Kagome's grave, which was now marked by a tombstone. On top of the tombstone stood an angel. SesshoMaru's fingers traced the outline of Kagome's name on the stone before turning to look at the grave next to hers. His fingers traced the words written on the stone. He whispered each letter as his fingers went over it.
" S... E... S... S... H... O... M... A... R... U... T... A... I... S... H... O." it was his name.
" SesshoMaru, What are you doing?" came a concerned voice from behind him. SesshoMaru turned to see Kagome standing next to her grave. She was wearing the same outfit as always, the black huddie, pants and shoes but now, she had nothing to hide with those sleeves of hers. SesshoMaru stepped toward her.
// Through the wind and the rain

In a world that she can't raise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place
Where she's loved //
" Merely reminiscing. You see Kagome; an abusing parent also killed me. In this case, it was my father. He murdered me and then I was sent to help you because you were to have the same fate. And you did."
" Thank you SesshoMaru, for everything you did for me. it meant a lot to me. I love you."
" I love you too Kagome."
Then, SesshoMaru pulled Kagome into his warm embrace and held her as if she were his lifeline in the world of the dead. After a moment, SesshoMaru leaned down and whispered something into Kagome's ear.
" I love you with all my heart Kagome. My concrete angel."
