Prologue

So this is my new story....To Steal a Heart Oh and I will try to work on ALL of my stories more often =D heh...heh...any who on with the new story Yippee!

A/n also the beginning is a little weird you will understand later on just be patient.

In this world there are humans and animals, but also there are youkai who rule them. It is now the year of 1927, and still the youkai rule over the humans and animals. Japan is ruled by four different powerful youkai families; they rule in the north, the south, the east, and the west. Everything is modern except for the law; some laws were still a tradition of the past. There was an uprising in the north, and the heir to their throne was brought down in battle. This brought worry in the south for the eldest daughter was betrothed to the fallen youkai.

The youngest daughter, Kikyou who is thirteen years old, of the Taiyoukai of the south, spied silently through the key hole of her father's office. She was trying to find out what was going on. Her father was having a very important meeting with his eldest daughter, her own best friend and sister.

"Kagome I have terrible news for you; I'm afraid that your betrothed has passed away."

Kikyou heard a gasp and her sister started to cry, "How did this happen?"

"There was a rebellion, and he didn't live through it."

"Hojo...why did you have to die?"

"Kagome, Kagome! We need to find another suitor as soon as possible. I will contact Inutaisho; maybe I can convince him to have Sesshomaru betrothed to you."

Kagome was stunned, "What? I can't!"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN'T!? You are my daughter; you will do as I say."

"It is dishonorable to Hojo's memory to betrothed so early."

"I don't care! You will mate with Sesshomaru, and that is final!"

Kagome started to cry harder, "Don't you care how I feel? I loved Hojo, and I don't want any other suitor."

"You will have another suitor, and he will be Sesshomaru!"

"No!"

"What?"

"NO!"

He slapped her, Kikyou wanted to run in her father's office, and hurt him for hurting her sister.

"Father I will never dishonor Hojo; therefore, I will never mate another man."

Their father exploded, "NEVER MATE ANOTHER MAN!? You are not my daughter! You are dishonored from this family! Go! Get out of here! I never want to see your face again!"

The tears swelled up in her eyes as she ran out of the office almost treading over her younger sister. Kagome held out her arms, and her sister rushed into her arms. "Kikyou no matter what happens, remember you will always be my little sister, and I will always love you. Don't forget about me okay?"

"I won't ever forget you. You are my best friend."

"I must leave you now. I will not be near you," Kagome placed her hand on Kikyou's heart, "but I will always be here."

And so it came to pass that Kagome fled the southern realm never to be seen by her family again. Her elder brothers searched for many months for her, but she hid her tracks well so as to not get her brothers in trouble with their father. From that day on, from the cruelty of her father to her sister, Kikyou's heart hardened letting no one, mortal or immortal, inside.
