Legend of the Faery Queen
The Legend of the Faeries of the Forest goes far and past. Some say they are the world's most magnificent creatures, more beautiful and worldly than angels and nymphs. Others say they are God's first and foremost creation--his most satisfactory creation. They are blessed, some say, by the Good and the Fortunes of the universe.
Moreover, each millennia, they say, a new Faery Queen is born to become their Grand Ruler. And in the second millennia, in the year of 0000 C.E., a beautiful faery by the name of Kikyo was born. Atop the Golden Tree clustered with the many Faery eggs, the first flutter of wings broke through the cracked egg with the royal symbol.
Kikyo, the first and foremost Faery Queen in the world, was thought to be the most glorious faery of all. Her long mass of black hair shimmered as dark as that of a raven's with large brown eyes warmer than the sweetest of chocolate. With a pale white complexion and a manner that of a fair maiden, the Faery Queen led her people through their life for the first six hundred years.
No human has ever managed to catch a glimpse of these magical creatures for they are the shyest of all kind. They fear the sight of humans, for humans are vulgar enough to hunt and pray on others of their own kind. The faeries stayed in the safety of their small forest, never out in the shine of the golden light.
But Kikyo was different.
The humans intrigued her. She would brave out of the safety of her kingdom and peek into the world of the humans. Her eyes would stare in wonder as these wingless beings went about their day with no magic, no miracles.
And, it was because she left the magics of her kingdom, that the God of Chaos from the High Heavens caught sight of her. Onigumo, the Lord of Chaos, fell in love within the first sight of her. He desired her beauty, he desired her body, he desired her soul.
And so, sending his minions after her, he attained the location of the Kingdom of the Faeries. Capturing the faeries of the Kingdom, he demanded that she became his mate or the destruction of her kingdom will begin. Horrified by the prospect over the death of her faery subjects, she submitted to the powerful God.
At the night of the new moon, she became the Goddess of Chaos. Never is she allowed to leave Heaven but for the light of the Full Moon. And so, each month, the heartsick Faery Queen would return to her sovereign-less kingdom and try to sooth the worries of her kin. And it was during one such visit, that she happens to stumble upon a demon in her forest, the demon InuYasha.
He was magnificent, this strange demon. His long hair was the silky color of the moonlight. It fanned out behind him in a half circle, as he lay wounded in the leaf beds of her forest soil. Sweat dripped down on his head with his eyes was closed to the world. Puffs of breath escaped his dried lips as he tried to get the oxygen to his lungs.
So beautiful, she had thought, as she stopped before the demon. A part of her was terrified, yes, for she had never been up close with a demon before. What are they capable of? she wondered. And yet, another part of her couldn't keep away. Almost as though hypnotized, the Faery Queen crept ever closer to this wounded man.
The pain that etched across his face called out to her--called out to her soul. With fear over her heart, she stopped before the demon and raised her hand. Gently touching cool fingers to his wound, she called to her healing powers to heal him.
He opened his eyes for the first time--those beautiful golden irises. It stunned her, the intensity behind the gold. Never had she seen such beautiful eyes and she wondered if they mirrored his soul.
Raising a clawed hand, he gently tucked a raven lock back into place, golden eyes never leaving her brown ones. "Who are you?" he murmured, wondering if maybe she was the famed Lady Death. Staring into those sweet eyes, he briefly thought that he wouldn't mind dying, if she would always be by his side.
"Kikyo..."
And heart met heart, as love flooded from one to the other. She became his that night in a way that Onigumo never managed to obtain. She gave something to him that night, which Onigumo never managed to get no matter how hard he tried.
Her love, freely given.
Once the God of Chaos heard of this particular night, his rage overtook him. Anger roared through his entire soul. Casting his powers over the Faery Queen and her lover, he cursed them for all eternity.
For her, the Queen, her punishment came to her most loved ones. The Royal line of the Faeries would be cursed forever. They would forever take the form that of a fox when hit by the first shine of the moon. Never would they be freed of this curse. One generation after another, they would feel the toll of their beloved ancestor. As for her, Kikyo, she will become that of a wind spirit, never to live and yet never to die. Each millennia, she will be there--present in the birth of her descendant--and she will know, know forever that she is the cause of their torment.
For him, the Demon, his punishment will be his own kin. The line of the Inu Youkai will be cursed for eternity. They would forever take the form that of a dog when hit by the first beam of sunlight. No one shall escape this curse, no matter how long the line nor how far it stretches. InuYasha himself shall be changed. A demon of the Inu clan no longer. Cursed forever to know of his mistake.
These two royal lines shall never meet. These two star-crossed lovers shall never find their happiness. One live by day, the other by night. That is his curse, this God, Onigumo.
