Despite the rather glacial pace of the progression of both storyline and updating, "Beside You in Time" is a fanfiction masterpiece. The characters and their relationship are developed so delicately that full appreciation may require a re-reading. The result is understated elegance. Brilliant!
I love this story. It's so interesting! Keep up the wonderful work and I can't wait for the next chapter!
Awesome chapter, I'm surprised you haven't gotten more reviews on this story because it is one of the most well written stories I've read. Easily one of my favorites.
Keep up the good work, ToWriteLoveOnAPage
Yaaaaay, I just read the new chapter. It was great.... I was so excited about the update that I had to make sure to experience it in the perfect atmoshpere. Haha I cleaned the house, lit the fire and kick the dog out so I had the optimal "ambiance" what a dork lol. Anyway it was worth the wait, but I'm excited to see Sesshoumaru in the next chapter I hope a reunion is in the cards :)
Im so glad you updated!!!! That was a great chapter and shippo's back, Yay!!! I cant wait to see what happens when they all meet up!
This story is so well-conceived and well written; I find I have little left to add save for unabashed gushing praise. Usually I try to give some kind of constructive criticism, but really, in this case I find myself simply sitting back and enjoying the ride. Despite negative occurrences happening to the main characters (as explained in Tortuga), these events only serve to highlight the depth of the characters (and your writing skills). I like that Gisela demonstrates a degree of empathy for Kagome here by providing womanly comforts...we begin to see her (Gisela) as more than simply a potential rival for Sesshoumaru's attentions.
Kagome's current hatred for Sesshoumaru is so perfect here - she knows she is hurting because of it (her hatred), yet she can't help but feel that way toward her erstwhile protector, given his failure to protect her. It's painful to see, but it is also realistic given what's she's gone through. Although Roger Vane was the direct physical cause of her pain, how can she not associate that pain with Sesshoumaru's failure to aid her in her time of need? At the same time, although Kagome's pain/hatred is the cause of this, it is also really wonderful to see that she has asserted her independence from Sesshoumaru. He cannot fully accept her as an individual with value (and perhaps she cannot fully accept herself that way) while she is constantly relying on him. Thus, while I don't relish the idea of Kagome in anguish, I do love the fact that she has insisted on remaining separated from him for the time being. And I LOVE the note she left him. It's so succinct, and the fact that it's not signed...so perfectly conveys how she feels, her ambivalence toward him.
As for Sesshoumaru's "revenge" taken on the pirate (and his crew)...in my view, it is really revenge for the harm to Sesshoumaru's pride (that he was unable to protect Kagome) and/or for his shame (that he sent her away, and thus exposed her to such harms), rather than revenge for the actual harm done to Kagome herself. Sesshoumaru still has yet to fully accept Kagome's importance to him as more than a fellow immortal bound by the wish. (Kagome recognizes this as well, as demonstrated by the note, in which she points out that his honor is at stake). I imagine that this is at least part of why you felt inclusion of this chapter was so crucial, as a step toward getting Sesshoumaru to accept Kagome as something more.
I suppose I could go on and on, but suffice to say this chapter, in keeping with the rest of the story, is lovely in its perfection. I hope you have a lot more planned for us, for I will be quite at a loss when this story ends...
What can I say? Another awesome chapter. I enjoy the change in locales, every chapter is a little slice of history. What happened to Kagome changed Sesshomaru just as much or more than it did Kagome. His feelings are starting to show.
Enjoyed the historical authenticity of this piece. One gets to see how Kagome has suffered and how she wreaks vengeance on those who have injured her. Hopefully, she will forgive Sesshoumaru next time they meet.
BTW I assume you meant to say "Tenseiga" instead of "Tetsusaiga" since IY would never willingly give up Tetsusaiga and it would never accept Sesshoumaru.
Oh my....
What a beautifully sad chapter. My heart goes out to Kagome. What a horrible thing to have happened.
But thank you for writing it nonetheless.
I always look forward to reading this story, to being drawn in to this world.
Although their time together was short, and somewhat heartbreaking, I know the both are anxious to meet again. Just as I am anxious to read the next installment.
Wonderfully written. I enjoyed it very much. Although, I am rather sad that Kagome and Sesshoumaru are split up now. I'm fascinated to see where you take this.
